The movie “Fear Street: Prom Queen” set in 1988 at the haunted Shadyside High, often referred to as “Killer Capital USA,” turns the prom into a lethal competition among It Girls. Netflix recently released the first images from this high school slasher, which is a continuation of the 2021 “Fear Street” trilogy that spans the years 1994, 1978, and even 1666. The streamer also shared some plot details for this upcoming movie, scheduled to be released later this year (the exact date is yet to be announced, but it could be around prom season).
Check out the newly published photos down below, featuring a stylish, red-garbed assassin whose fashion sense is rivaled only by their penchant for brutally murdering individuals, as described by filmmaker and joint writer Matt Palmer (of ‘Calibre’).
Palmer spoke up, “We’ve returned to Shadyside in the year 1988. The Senior Prom is merely two days off, and the competition for prom queen is already intense. However, when someone begins murdering the potential queens, chaos is about to erupt. Imagine a typical 80s slasher movie, filled with excitement, but this time with intriguing characters, music references, dancing, and much more!
In the upcoming chapter of the violent “Fear Street” series, the students at Shadyside High are preparing for their prom. The school’s elite group of popular girls are busy maneuvering for power and prestige as usual. However, things take an unexpected turn when a brave outsider is nominated to join their inner circle. As other girls begin inexplicably vanishing, the class of ’88 finds themselves thrust into a dangerous and terrifying prom night.
1988 graduates of Shadyside High School feature actors such as India Fowler (known for ‘The Nevers’), Suzanna Son (‘The Idol’), Fina Strazza (‘Paper Girls’), Ella Rubin (‘Anora’), Ariana Greenblatt (‘Barbie’), and David Iacono (‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’). Lili Taylor (‘Outer Range’), Chris Klein (‘Sweet Magnolias’), and Katherine Waterston (‘The Agency’) complete the cast.
In simpler terms, these individuals graduated from Shadyside High School in 1988, and some of them are well-known actors like India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, Ella Rubin, Ariana Greenblatt, David Iacono, Lili Taylor, Chris Klein, and Katherine Waterston. They have appeared in various TV shows and movies such as ‘The Nevers’, ‘The Idol’, ‘Paper Girls’, ‘Anora’, ‘Barbie’, ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, ‘Outer Range’, ‘Sweet Magnolias’, and ‘The Agency’.
In a recent statement, the filmmaker discussing the adaptation of R.L. Stine’s book “Fear Street: The Prom Queen,” originally published in 1992, noted that the fictional town of Shadyside seems remarkably relatable to contemporary America. It’s almost as if it could represent any present-day working class town in the United States. This adaptation delves more profoundly into high school and family life, revealing that many of the struggles faced by ’80s teenagers still seem strikingly relevant today.
Fear Street: Prom Queen is streaming on Netflix later in 2025.
