You Won’t Believe Who’s Back from the Dead in Scream 7

Hey there, Sidney! You know that old horror movie trick? When you think the villain is gone for good, they come back to give you a real fright. Just like how in the classic Scream series, Billy Loomis and Stu Macher tried but couldn’t finish off Sidney Prescott during the 1996 Woodsboro Murders. Well, Matthew Lillard, who played Stu, is going to reappear in Scream 7!

Lillard made the announcement on Instagram by posting a video featuring a hand-written note that read, “My parents will surely be upset with me,” which is a line from the 1996 movie, “Scream.

In the first Scream movie directed by Wes Craven, Stu, played by Matthew Lillard, received numerous stab wounds and was presumably killed when a television fell on him after being knocked over by Sidney, the final girl. Whether or not Stu Macher is still alive remains uncertain, as his character might have had a resurrection similar to Billy’s ghostly appearances in 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI, where Billy appeared as Sam Carpenter’s hallucination (portrayed by Melissa Barrera).

The filmmaker behind “Scream,” Kevin Williamson – responsible for the initial script and directing the latest installment – hinted at Neve Campbell’s comeback within the series in 2023.

Williamson noted that one should avoid using the word ‘never’, as there’s always the possibility of the “twin brother theory”. Lillard, who backs the “Stu is still out there” hypothesis, expressed in a 2023 interview his desire to reappear in the Scream series.

Actor known for roles in both “Scooby-Doo” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s” joins a cast that includes Courteney Cox reprising her role as Gale Weathers, who survived Ghostface along with Sidney (played by Campbell) since Dewey’s (David Arquette) demise in 2022’s “Scream 5”. It was reported on Thursday that Scott Foley, who played Roman Bridger, the director and fifth Ghostface in “Scream 3” from 2000, is also set to return.

Actors Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp have secured parts in unspecified roles for upcoming projects. (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Madame Web, Gen V, Heartbreak High, Pitch Perfect)

Originally known as the “Core Four”, only four members remain in the new season, as Barrera and Jenna Ortega’s Carpenter sisters will not return. However, Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy-Brown), the twins, are coming back, along with Roger L. Jackson reprising his role as Ghostface’s voice. Actor Joel McHale from “Community” has been cast as Sidney’s husband, Mark Evans, while Isabel May, known for her work in “Yellowstone: 1883”, will play the role of Mark and Sidney’s daughter.

Deadline first reported the news of Lillard’s casting.
