As February approaches, the influx of new video games is nearly here. If you’re not careful, it could easily swallow up countless hours of your time. The latest installment in the Civilization series, Civilization VII, will be released on PS5 on 11th February, or if you want early access, it’s available from 6th Feb for an additional fee. Developer Firaxis has revealed a content roadmap detailing regular updates players can anticipate through 2025 and beyond. To sweeten the deal, they’ve also released a trailer featuring Friedrich the Great.
Based on today’s livestream event (thanks, IGN), it appears that new content for both free and paid users is imminent, featuring additional Leaders, Civilizations, and Natural Wonders. The main attraction is the Crossroads of the World pack, a two-part paid expansion due in March. This update will introduce Leader Ava Lovelace, ancient rivals of Rome like Carthage, and more modern Civilizations such as Great Britain to the game. Towards the end of the month, Simon Bolivar will lead a revolution, accompanied by Civilizations including Bulgaria and Nepal.
As a passionate fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the arrival of two new Leaders and four Civilizations in the upcoming Right to Rule expansion pack, which is tentatively scheduled for release anywhere between April and September. A hint at a third pack has also been dropped, suggesting that it will be released sometime after October. In addition to this major expansion, there will be regular free content updates throughout, offering new challenges, events, and balance adjustments to keep the game fresh and exciting.
