Despite rumors about Far Cry 7, fans are still eagerly waiting for any official news from Ubisoft. What they didn’t anticipate was Ubisoft taking a fresh approach with the series by revisiting a previous title and enhancing it with a new update. It’s not the latest game in the series, Far Cry 6, that has been updated; rather, it’s one of its older counterparts that has received this unexpected improvement.
As a devoted gamer, I’ve played my fair share of Far Cry games, and there’s no question in my mind that Far Cry 3 stands head and shoulders above the rest in this series. While some die-hard fans might argue for the earlier titles or even Far Cry 5, most would agree with me on this one.
On the flip side, when it comes to the weakest link in the Far Cry chain, there’s hardly any debate needed: Far Cry: New Dawn is the game that falls short. It might not be everyone’s least favorite, but for many of us who love this series, it’s a clear letdown.
First released in 2019, Far Cry 6 (a spin-off and sequel to Far Cry 5) received a Metacritic score of 73 and sold moderately due to its lackluster performance. However, those who wish to play it in 2025 or have been eagerly waiting can now enjoy a smooth 60 FPS experience on PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, thanks to a recent update for the game six years post-release. Surprisingly, fans were not anticipating such a significant upgrade for this title.
Despite running at 60 frames per second, the game still falls short due to non-technical issues. The problems lie within its design, narrative, and character development, areas that aren’t addressed by this recent update. It remains unclear as to why Ubisoft has invested resources in releasing this update for a game that lacks widespread appeal, as they have yet to provide an explanation.
