The fate of Death in Paradise‘s Commissioner Selwyn Patterson is once again hanging in the balance.
In the first episode of season 14, it was communicated to him that his character’s part was going to be eliminated, effectively making him unemployed from the series, and presumably no longer required on the program.
Could the ongoing murder mystery continue without its most longstanding character, given that the Commissioner might be let go?
Tobi Bakare remarked, “Don plays a crucial role in our production, yet it’s remarkable how our series consistently thrives in a distinct manner.” Tobi returned to his character, Sergeant JP Hooper, for the new season’s premiere.
Despite numerous deaths occurring on the island, the series consistently thrives. It has an uncanny ability to endure. They seem to have discovered a recipe that allows for continuous adaptation.
It’s thrilling to observe the innovative ideas that surface when one is in a tight spot. I believe these situations can definitely foster survival and something novel and refreshing.
But Bakare did go on to say that Warrington would be “a big miss” if he was to leave.
“Don is just Don,” he added. “So there’ll be some coming back from him.”
It’s not the first time Death in Paradise has teased a possible exit for Selwyn.
In the 100th episode of the show, he came very close to losing his life due to a gunshot wound. There were subtle indications that the traumatic event could lead him to consider retirement.
But in the end, the writers decided not to let him go and before long, normal service resumed.
Will that be the case this time?

And it’s not just Selwyn who has a lot on his mind…
As a dedicated fan, I find myself immersed in the gripping storyline where DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) uncovers a shocking revelation: his mother’s death may not have been the natural occurrence he had been led to believe. Instead, it seems that she could have been a victim of murder, adding an unexpected twist to his personal and professional life.
With all he believed crumbling apart, could his life retain its previous form moving forward?” or simply “Will his life regain its original shape after everything he knew disintegrates?
As a devoted film enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the moment when Sergeant Naomi Thomas (played by Shantol Jackson) encounters a heart-stopping twist: an ex-flame from her days at St Barnabas unexpectedly shows up on the island, placing her right smack in the middle of an emotional juncture.
