Final Fantasy XIV is still incredibly popular, boasting a large and devoted community of players. I’ve even witnessed firsthand, within my own family, how quickly people can become completely absorbed in this ongoing online role-playing game from Square Enix.
Players in the US are having trouble with the new challenging raid, Arcadion: Heavyweight Division. Since the eight-player raid launched, North American servers have been hit with repeated DDoS attacks, causing players to disconnect during raids, lose their progress, and experience long wait times to get back in.
Players have reported numerous attacks happening throughout the day, sometimes up to fifteen times in a single day. This is disrupting gameplay and causing frustration as the problem continues and a solution isn’t yet available.
Repeated DDoS attacks are disrupting progression, queues, and organized play

Gamers throughout North America are consistently experiencing disconnects, not just occasional ones. Many are losing connection about once an hour during the busiest times, and some are getting dropped multiple times in a short period.
Many players report that the issue gets worse when they enter instanced content, especially challenging raids. A single disconnection during these activities can often ruin the attempt or cause the whole group to break up.
To make matters worse, players in Europe and Japan don’t seem to be having these issues. Some North American players tried switching to servers in Oceania, but those servers then started experiencing problems too. This creates an unfair situation for North American players when new competitive challenges are released, putting them behind those trying to be the first to complete them.
Players are getting increasingly frustrated with Square Enix’s lack of communication about ongoing problems. They’re paying for a subscription service and want clear updates and a guarantee that these issues won’t keep happening, especially since similar problems have surfaced before.
Square Enix has recognized the ongoing connection issues with short updates, but players are still experiencing disconnects, even as recently as yesterday. This delay between acknowledging the problem and fixing it is frustrating many players.
