According to recent statements by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, it seems that Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release sometime during the Fall of 2025.
In the third quarter of 2025, during the announcement of the company’s financial results, Zelnick confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be released in Fall 2025. However, he did not disclose any additional information about when exactly the game will be launched.
In the future, it seems Take-Two Interactive is set for a record-breaking year, with several highly anticipated releases. Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is slated for launch on February 11th, followed by Mafia: The Old Country in the summer, Grand Theft Auto VI in the fall, and Borderlands 4 at an unspecified date. Take-Two’s CEO, Zelnick, expresses optimism about these upcoming launches. Additionally, Take-Two continues to make careful investments in their development pipeline and remains hopeful that Zynga will continue to create successful mobile franchises, as evidenced by the ongoing success of Match Factory.
According to Take-Two Interactive’s financial report, it was confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 5 has now been purchased more than 210 million times, maintaining its status as the second best-selling game ever made. Simultaneously, Red Dead Redemption 2 by Rockstar Games has surpassed 70 million copies sold as well.
While tuning into the conference call regarding their earnings, I noticed Take-Two Interactive announcing an impressive milestone – pre-orders for Civilization VII set a new franchise record. In terms of overall performance, Take-Two Interactive reported a staggering $1.37 billion in quarterly net bookings.
The world watches, holding its breath
Expressing it in a more conversational manner: The entire gaming community can’t wait for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, and that anticipation is massive. It’s like a storm brewing on the horizon, casting its shadow over every other game developer and publisher. Whenever I chat with them these days, the conversation always seems to circle back to Grand Theft Auto 6, with everyone asking, “Do you think we’ll see it this year?
At the beginning of the year, I pointed out during our chat about future gaming trends in 2025 that Grand Theft Auto 6 stood out as one of the few games capable of drawing players away from current popular titles, and even encouraging last-generation gamers using PlayStation 4 or Xbox One to invest in new gaming equipment. Regardless of whether Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out this year or not, its release (or lack thereof) will have significant impacts across the board.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently planned to launch on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
