Upon Cyril’s recent arrival from the Caribbean, as depicted in the latest episode of Call the Midwife, it was revealed that the social worker and pastor had been informed by Lucille about her wish to end their marriage through divorce.
“She doesn’t wish to return to London, and I do not wish to live in Jamaica,” he told Mrs Wallace.
“Is there not a compromise you can reach?” she asked.
“I’m afraid not,” he responded flatly.
As soon as Lucille got a job across the globe, the prospect of renewing their romance faded quickly.
Given that neither of them wishes to disrupt their current lifestyles, there seems to be no viable path for the couple to reunite, despite how strongly fans might desire it.
And that now leaves the door open for Cyril and Rosalind…
Following a possible exposure to either Weil’s Disease or Leptospirosis, an infection transmitted through contact with animals, soil, or water, Rosalind’s health deteriorated significantly. Consequently, she had to be urgently admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Following the midwife being told by the doctor that her recent blood test results suggested some impaired kidney function, he underscored the importance of the following 24 hours, stressing they were crucial.
If the penicillin didn’t do its job, she’d be “entering very difficult territory”.
Fortunately, Rosalind’s health started showing signs of recovery, allowing her to become well enough for visits. Among those who came to see her was Cyril.
“I kept thinking I should have brought you flowers,” he said, before taking a seat next to her bed.
He then took her hand in his as they gazed at one another lovingly.
After the passing of Nigel the cat, he confided that he feels he’s not meant to live in solitude, admitting his need for companionship. He later shared with her about his recent marital separation.
He said, “I can’t predict what lies ahead, but I know I don’t prefer to encounter it alone.” Then, he leaned in and kissed her gently on the cheek.
However, upon learning from Rosalind that Joyce’s marriage with Lucille was terminated and they would spend more time together, Joyce’s friend expressed cautionary advice.
“Don’t,” she said. “Child, please. Don’t.
Regardless of whether he’s married, divorced, or a pastor, these factors don’t necessarily make him an intriguing romantic partner.
As a cinephile, I found myself drawn to this cinematic masterpiece that skillfully weaves together two disparate characters from distinct realms. If you’re not a fan of one, chances are you won’t resonate with the other, and there’s no shying away from their contrasting appeal. The audience is unabashedly vocal about their preferences, making it clear where their allegiance lies.
“It’s going to be so hard, too hard, and I don’t want that for you.”
Upon hearing her plea, Rosalind looked crestfallen.
“But what if it’s something we want for ourselves?” she asked.
“I’ve said my piece,” responded Joyce, who knows all too well what’s in store.
Before the start of season 14, Zephryn Taitte hinted at challenging times for Cyril and Rosalind as their relationship deepens.
He recalled having a conversation with someone on the film set, who shared that they were in an interracial relationship during the 1970s. They mentioned how challenging it was to express affection openly due to societal norms.
He went on to that the pair “do have a little spat with some people on the streets”.
“That’s the early stages of it, and I’m sure it’s going get harder for them,” said Taitte.
Natalie Quarry also echoed those comments.
