The Star Wars movies feature many famous characters, like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia – and that’s just a few! While most are beloved, some characters are known for less positive reasons. Jar Jar Binks, who first appeared in the prequel films, is often considered one of the most controversial. But now, he has a chance to be seen in a new light in an upcoming Star Wars series from Marvel, and ComicBook has a first look at it.
Next month, a new comic book called Star Wars: Jar Jar will reveal what happened to Jar Jar Binks after the prequel films and show how he secretly helped create the Rebel Alliance. What makes this story even more exciting is that it’s co-written by Ahmet Best, the actor who played Jar Jar, and features a team-up with Kelleran Beq – Best’s character from Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge and a cameo appearance in The Mandalorian. The comic is co-written by Marc Guggenheim and illustrated by Kieran McKeown, and you can find a preview below.
Jar Jar Will Finally Face the Consequence of His Prequel Actions

The last time most Star Wars fans saw Jar Jar Binks was in Attack of the Clones, where he spoke before the Senate, helping Chancellor Palpatine gain emergency powers. This ultimately led to Palpatine becoming emperor – a huge turning point for the galaxy that we’ve seen explored in many stories since. However, we’ve never learned what happened to Jar Jar himself after those events.
Initially, it’s unclear what’s happening, but the new images show Kelleran Beq reuniting with Jar Jar, and things quickly become dangerous as they’re attacked. We’ll also learn more about Kelleran Beq, which fans will enjoy. It’s great to see actor Ahmed Best potentially shaping Jar Jar’s story after facing significant negativity following The Phantom Menace. Over time, opinions on the character have improved, and this new story allows Jar Jar to confront the past and finally find redemption.
In the new Marvel comic Star Wars: Jar Jar #1, Jar Jar Binks is back! Co-written by Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar, this issue explores the fallout from Jar Jar granting Palpatine emergency powers. The story will also reveal Jar Jar’s surprising connection to the early days of the Rebel Alliance, with a guest appearance by the popular Jedi Knight, Kelleran Beq.
Star Wars: Jar Jar #1 goes on sale February 11th.
