Gundam Fans Can See the New Movie Early (But There’s a Catch)

GKIDS Films is building excitement for the release of “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-“, a compilation film based on the first three episodes of the upcoming series. The company has revealed that the motion picture will be shown ahead of its scheduled North American release date in select IMAX theaters, which is on February 28th. However, it’s important to note that IMAX theaters are not as common in all areas, so fans who wish to watch “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-” early might have to travel quite a distance if they don’t live near an IMAX theater.

The first installment of Bandai Namco Filmworks, or Sunrise Studios, is a marketing venture for the upcoming anime series, “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX”. This movie functions as an introduction to the world and robots of “Gundam GQuuuuuuX” for viewers. The film premiered in Japan on January 17th, becoming the top-grossing movie at the Japanese box office. GKIDS holds exclusive rights for theatrical showings of “-Beginning-“, with an IMAX release slated for February 26th, 2025, preceding the standard theater release by two days. Tickets are now available for purchase.

Over the past few years, I’ve witnessed some significant triumphs associated with the Gundam franchise. The “Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury” series left a lasting impression, garnering immense popularity and boosting model kit sales. The “Gundam Seed Freedom” film shattered all previous records for the franchise, establishing itself as the highest-grossing Gundam film thus far. Bandai is maintaining this momentum with “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX,” a new series anticipated to be one of the biggest anime sensations in 2025. This upcoming series is being co-produced by Studio Khara, the same team behind the renowned “Neon Genesis Evangelion” franchise.

There are whispers suggesting that the anime titled “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” might debut in Japan around April, making it one of the most anticipated shows this Spring season. This series is set in an alternate reality based on the original “Mobile Suit Gundam” anime. Instead of the Earth Federation overpowering the Principality of Zeon, as in the original storyline, “Gundam GQuuuuuuX” unfolds in a world where the opposite occurs. The famous Gundam character, Char Aznable, is featured in “Gundam GQuuuuuuX”, which highlights the key difference between the original timeline and this new, alternate one.
