Fans of Image Comics‘ popular horror series “Nights” are excited as the comic is set to make its transition into animated television, with the team behind Netflix’s successful show “Big Mouth” taking charge of production. The animation studio Titmouse, responsible for “Big Mouth,” will be bringing “Nights” to life on screen. To enhance the excitement, original “Nights” writer Wyatt Kennedy and artist Luigi Formisano will also contribute to the project, meaning both horror enthusiasts and comic book fans have something to look forward to.
Night’s initial arc, dubbed Season One, has been successfully unveiled. However, whether the series will follow a straightforward season-by-season structure or extend the narrative over several seasons as fresh topics emerge, still remains uncertain.
As the creative director at Titmouse, Alexei Bochenek expresses eagerness to provide fans with an engaging experience that mirrors his own late-night immersion in Toonami. He refers to Nights as a “future generational experience.
Reading this takes me back to late nights when I’d watch FLCL on Toonami, feeling my mind blown not only by its dynamism but also by the profound resonance it held with my inner self – encompassing all aspects of who I am. Bochenek stated, ‘If you know, you know.’ My aim is to recreate that sensation for animation enthusiasts like me who have been seeking it since then, and introduce a fresh audience to the transformative power of discovering themselves through a series that deeply resonates with them, inspiring them to become its ardent supporters. That’s what Nights represents.
In the world of animation, Kennedy seems to fit right in too. Interestingly, he mentioned that he often considers animation before live-action for adaptations. He expressed his feelings by saying, “From our initial discussions, Alexei and his team grasped the unique essence of our peculiar tale instantly, and their collaborative enthusiasm fills me with assurance that we’re creating a product that readers of the book and newcomers will both appreciate.
Regarding the show’s animation, Titmouse intends to preserve the early 2000s aesthetic and vibe of the comic, as it is set in 2003. Given their successful track record with shows like Legend of Vox Machina, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and The Venture Bros., they are skilled at reflecting a property’s essence through a distinctive style. This approach should carry over to Nights as well.
Indeed, Formisano has shared that he admires shows produced by Titmouse, making this collaboration an absolute dream come true. He expressed his gratitude, stating, “It’s a tremendous privilege to collaborate with a team who shares our passion for this story as much as Wyatt and I do. I can hardly wait for fans to witness the magic we’ll create together.
Currently, there’s no definite date or timeframe announced for the release, but rest assured, we’ll make sure to keep you informed. Meanwhile, you might want to read up on “Nights” ahead of the show with the Nights TP, Vol. 1. You can find its detailed description right here.
