In the course of her life with daughter Drew (age 5) and sons Jett (age 3) and Bear (age 14 months), Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson East has discovered that managing child-rearing under the public eye necessitates a delicate balance.
So it’s a good thing the athlete is literally one of the best in the world.
It doesn’t imply that the 33-year-old, who won gold on balance beam at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing and earned three silver medals for her floor routine, team competition, and all-around events, thinks she consistently gets a perfect score of 10.

Following the church service, Shawn went out with his husband Andrew East and their children, when two young girls approached them for photographs. Shawn estimated that the girls were around 8 or 9 years old. Andrew was puzzled, and one of the girls asked, “Mommy, why did they want a picture with you?” according to an exclusive interview with TopMob News.
Truthfully, said Shawn, she’s still cooking up an answer.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: I wear my athletic accomplishments as a badge of honor, not something to be ashamed of. In fact, there’s no moment I’ve felt prouder than during my career when I achieved those feats.
As she ponders on the best way to describe fame to her children, she finds herself grappling with the challenge of making it seem ordinary and insignificant: “I’m trying to understand how to convey that being famous doesn’t make me any different or special.
Shawn emphasized that he didn’t want her to interpret their situation as granting them any special privileges. Instead, he simply wanted to handle it appropriately.
However, the gymnast performed a cartwheel effortlessly without needing deep thought when Drew executed it on the beam, as one would expect, she simply executed the flip.
Shawn remembered thinking, “I wasn’t expressing any criticism, but it wouldn’t bother me at all if it was gymnastics.” He observed that former NFL longsnapper Andrew echoed the same sentiment regarding their children possibly playing football in future. “There’s something so heartwarmingly charming and fills you with a sense of pride as a parent,” Shawn noted, “to witness them enthusiastic about an activity, and to return home and hear them say, ‘Hey Mom, I accomplished this.’
As a devoted admirer, I wholeheartedly agree with the notion that Drew might be emulating her chalk-dusted mentor. But it’s not merely the thought of her mastering gymnastics moves like the beam or cartwheel that fills me with joy. Instead, it’s the sheer exuberance she displays when sharing her accomplishments with me, and the opportunity to share in her pride and celebrate those moments for both her and our children, that truly makes my heart swell with happiness.
Shawn admitted that helping each child discover their interests can be quite demanding. It’s an ongoing effort that requires deliberate attention each day.
However, when it comes to the significant responsibility of making sure they consume sufficient healthy nourishment, she seems to have found a clever shortcut or trick.
After many years of combining various vitamins, probiotics, and nutrients for her children, Shawn proposed the concept of a powder specifically designed for kids to Beam’s co-founder Matt Lombardi, who is affectionately known as Uncle Matt by Drew, Jett, and Bear.
She mentioned that instead of making something for mass production, he eventually developed it specifically for her kids. After many adjustments, the Kids’ All-in-One Superpowder – enriched with vitamins, folate, calcium, and zinc – which they have been incorporating into their nightly chocolate milk for several months, is now accessible for others to buy.
Regarding the test group, Shawn stated that both Drew and Jett really enjoy it, and they recognize it as their vitamins. However, they’ve never shown any doubt about it; instead, they merely desire their chocolate milk.
