In the 40th-anniversary episode of EastEnders, Martin Fowler (James Bye) and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) find themselves in a perilous situation, with their lives hanging in the balance at the close of the show.
On February 19, 2024, during an episode on BBC One’s soap opera, it was Martin who miraculously survived the first blast at the Queen Vic pub. After that, he took swift action to protect his loved ones.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that all other members of the Slater family, including Ruby Allen, were safe. However, Stacey, his former wife and beloved, found herself stuck in the pub restrooms and in imminent danger.
Although Ruby implored Martin to consider their son Roman and flee with her, Martin stubbornly refused to abandon Stacey and a glance passed between them implied that Ruby was aware of where his affection resided.
While Martin was rescuing Stacey from rubble inside the restrooms, she insisted on staying put until he clarified his reasons for picking Ruby instead of her and why the current moment wasn’t suitable for their reunion.
They delved into old times, but Martin refused to budge on the idea they hadn’t succeeded. However, when they both made their way into the main part of the pub, Martin admitted to Stacey that indeed, it was her he had feelings for.
“It’s you, Stace. Of course, it’s you,” proclaimed Martin, holding her tenderly.

In the heart of the cinematic moment, as their eyes locked in tender affection, a relentless iron beam came crashing down between us, forcing me to instinctively shove Stacey clear, only to bear its weight upon myself.
With Martin crying out in agony beneath the debris, Stacey appeared frightened as the situation came to a close.
Could it be that EastEnders is preparing to deprive Martin and Stacey of their blissful conclusion? For some time, we’ve had this nagging suspicion…
In a different part of the same show, Kathy Cotton (played by Gillian Taylforth) managed to save daughter-in-law Cindy Beale’s life (portrayed by Michelle Collins), just before she was taken to the hospital – even though earlier on, Cindy had attempted to take her own life.
While Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) found herself in trouble, she was motivated to call out for assistance by an apparition of her deceased mother Angie Watts, played once more by Anita Dobson. Eventually, her ex-husband, Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp), came to her rescue.
Ultimately, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) gave birth in the pub kitchen, surrounded by her sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) and cousin Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa). This occurred immediately after a heated confrontation with Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman), who was unfortunately crushed by a collapsing ceiling and lost his life.
