Stephen Graham stars in adrenaline-fuelled trailer for one-shot drama Adolescence

Based on the trailer’s opening scene, where the police forcefully enter the Miller residence as Jamie vehemently claims his innocence, it appears this will be a very dramatic and intense situation.

In this show, Graham takes on the part of Jamie’s father Eddie Miller, while Ashley Walters from Top Boy plays Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe and Erin Doherty (A Thousand Blows) portrays Briony Ariston, a clinical psychologist working on Jamie’s case.

As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the cast for our upcoming film is nothing short of extraordinary. I’ll be watching with bated breath as newcomer Owen Cooper takes on the role of Jamie. Familiar faces from my favorite series like Game of Thrones (Faye Marsay), The Responder (Christine Tremarco), Happy Valley (Mark Stanley), After Life (Jo Hartley) and Amélie Pease will also grace our screens, adding depth and intrigue to the narrative.

In addition, the trailer shows Jamie undergoing interrogation by the police, still vehemently asserting his innocence amidst insinuations of a volatile and disrespectful nature towards women. It subtly hints at Eddie’s internal struggle, wondering if he may have made a mistake in raising his son.

The series was penned by the productive writer Jack Thorne, who jointly developed it with Graham. During a question-and-answer session at the Netflix Next event last month, Graham disclosed where he derived the concept for the series.

Over the last decade or so, a significant increase in youth violence involving knives has been observed across the nation. Particular incidents that stood out to me involved young males, who should be noted are still minors, taking the lives of even younger females.

When I shared it with Phil, it struck me quite forcefully. In that moment, I found myself questioning, ‘Why is this so? What’s transpiring? What’s unfolding here? Why does it have to be like this?’

When issues affecting society as a whole appear in the news, there’s a tendency for people to quickly judge and place blame on the parents, especially when it comes from our backgrounds of growing up on council estates.

Many of us tend to take the easiest route, assuming it’s the most likely solution. But I wondered, ‘What if that assumption is completely off-base?’
