Actor James Bye shared that he personally told his EastEnders co-star Lacey Turner about his upcoming exit from the soap opera, once the details for a thrilling farewell had been finalized.

The actor has gained nationwide recognition for playing Martin Fowler for over a decade on the BBC’s longstanding drama series, which marked its 40th anniversary with an impressive celebration last week.

In the chaotic wake following an explosion at the Queen Vic, a real-time transmission showed Martin pinned under a massive metal structure.

As a dedicated moviegoer, I found myself on the edge of my seat, anticipating the character’s survival after a harrowing ordeal. However, it soon became evident that the instant the beam was removed, his body would plunge into a tragic shock, forcing a heart-wrenching farewell to his dearest love, Stacey (Lacey Turner).

Last evening, on The One Show, Bye disclosed that he asked for the opportunity to discuss his departure with Turner, emphasizing their long-standing friendship developed from numerous electrifying performances they shared together.

He started off saying, recalling the times following when his character’s destiny was determined, “I vowed to keep it entirely confidential.” Naturally, those connected with the plot were informed shortly after me.

In essence, I shared with Chris Clenshaw, following our decision-making process, that it was essential for me to be the one to inform Lacey about [the situation]. The rest of them, you may disclose the information to, but Lacey needs to hear it from me.

Besides informing my wife, who wasn’t too thrilled about it, telling Lace was quite challenging. The past few months have been incredibly emotional for me.

I was deeply moved, as we’ve collaborated extensively. Performing in that particular episode made it even more extraordinary. It was truly a memorable evening and one I’ll always cherish. Given the circumstances, I doubt I’ll have another opportunity quite like it.
