Now, Mattel, the renowned toy manufacturer behind Barbie, is aiming to make a splash in the film industry with one of their toys, and who better to bring Barney to life than the talented Daniel Kaluuya? So, get ready for a cinematic adventure with “Barney” – a movie that’s sure to delight both young and old!
The initial whispers about this project emerged in November 2019, when Robbie Brenner from Mattel Films hinted at the possibility of Daniel Kaluuya’s involvement, stating that such a collaboration would enable them to explore an entirely fresh take on ‘Barney’, one that would catch viewers off guard and challenge their expectations. However, it appears that instead of Daniel Kaluuya himself playing Barney, his production company, 59% Productions, in conjunction with Mattel Films, the owners of the Barney IP, will be producing the film together.
The specifics of the storyline remain secret, but it’s been announced that Ayo Edebiri, who gained fame in “The Bear,” will be penning the script for the forthcoming live-action ‘Barney’ film. Moreover, discussions are ongoing about her potential involvement as an actor in the movie too!
Brenner expressed that if something isn’t genuine, they won’t proceed with it. They aim to stay true to the original essence, the fundamental characteristics of “Barney,” while simultaneously updating it for a more contemporary feel.
