Maggie and Negan have returned to the bustling city life of New York. It’s been two years since we last saw these former adversaries-turned-allies-turned-enemies in the grimy, dark metropolis of New York City, where they ventured together into the zombie-infested Manhattan to save Maggie’s son Hershel (Logan Kim). Recently, AMC announced that season 2 of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” will debut on Sunday, May 4, at 9pm ET/PT on both AMC and AMC+.
Apart from the first airing date, AMC unveiled the opening minutes of an eight-episode series that you can watch below.)
To the rhythm of “New York Groove” by Hello, the initial two minutes depict the Burazi, a Manhattan-based gang led by the Croat (Željko Ivanek) and backed by The Dama (Lisa Emery), who are preparing for an impending gang conflict. They are shown using a heavily fortified truck to gather remnants of the city’s inhabitants, who are still wandering the streets despite falling into decay.
As a passionate cinephile, I’d rephrase it like this: Utilizing our island’s unique resource, death, we harness the methane produced from decomposing bodies within tanks. This gas is then transformed into liquid fuel, enabling us to generate electricity – enough to rekindle the lights in the city that never slumbers, the City That Never Sleeps.
In summary for Dead City season 2, “As the struggle for dominance over Manhattan escalates, Maggie and Negan find themselves on opposing sides. Their paths eventually cross, revealing a more intricate and grueling escape plan than they had anticipated.
In addition to Cohan and Morgan reprising their characters from The Walking Dead, familiar faces such as Ivanek playing the Croat, Emery portraying The Dama, Kim taking on Hershel Greene, Gaius Charles as Marshal Armstrong, and Mahina Anne Marie Napoleon as Ginny are returning. Dascha Polanco, known for her role in Orange Is the New Black, will join the cast as a new character named Lucia Narvaez, and Kim Coates from Sons of Anarchy has been cast as adversary gang leader Bruegel.
Originally created by Eli Jorné, who has served as a writer and co-executive producer on The Walking Dead for several seasons, steps back into his role as showrunner and executive producer for the series. Joining him in these positions are Scott M. Gimple (The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live), Andrew Lincoln, Morgan, Brian Bockrath (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon), Michael Satrazemis (Fear the Walking Dead), and Colin Walsh (NOS4A2).
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 1 is streaming now on AMC+, and season 2 premieres May 4.
