Feature: Going Platinum #7: Burnout Paradise Remastered

Platinum Trophy #7: Burnout Paradise Remastered

Date Earned: 2nd April 2018

Dopamine Index:

I first played Burnout Paradise in 2008, and it’s still my all-time favorite open-world racing game.

If you know me, you know how much I love this game series. While I personally prefer how the older games were structured, Burnout Paradise Remastered still proves that Criterion Games was incredibly innovative twenty years ago.

The updated version of the game is good, and honestly, I’d enjoy it even if it were just a basic re-release. I actually prefer it to many of the newer games out there.

I really liked games like The Crew Motorfest and Forza Horizon 5, but Burnout Paradise was truly groundbreaking. Even now, its online features feel more advanced than those in many newer games.

The game starts in single-player mode, letting you explore and cause chaos in Paradise City at your own pace. But switching to online play is incredibly easy – just a tap of the d-pad puts you into a lobby. It was a remarkably smooth transition back in 2008, and it still feels amazing today in 2026.

What really makes this my favorite open-world racing game isn’t just what you can do online. The driving itself is fantastic – drifting feels amazing, the steering is quick and precise, each car handles a little differently, and the feeling of speed is incredible.

Paradise City isn’t huge compared to today’s open-world games, but it’s incredibly well-designed. I know the city layout like the back of my hand, thanks to its many unique landmarks and areas. Plus, the map is packed with things to do – from completing missions and discovering hidden shortcuts to destroying billboards.

Everything about it is fantastic. The cars are amazing, the races are thrilling, even the crashes are spectacular. From the music to the little details – like revving your engine at the start line, fixing up your car at gas stations, and the funny commentary from DJ Atomika – it’s all just incredibly well done.

I didn’t pay much attention to the trophies while playing Burnout Paradise Remastered – this feature series is all about them.

Okay, looking at these challenges, most of them seem pretty manageable. There’s just one that worries me – it requires getting seven other players together at a specific spot. That one’s going to get harder the longer we wait, I think!

Aside from a few minor challenges, this was easily my smoothest platinum trophy achievement yet. It was a genuinely enjoyable experience, and it’s always simpler when you’re really passionate about the game.

Cheers, Burnout Paradise Remastered.
