The Louisiana State University community is in mourning.
As a devoted follower of our school’s track and field team, I mournfully share the heartbreaking news that Dillon Reidenauer, our young and vibrant freshman, tragically passed away in a fatal car accident, as the university has confirmed. At just 18 years old, her spirit will forever be remembered among us.
On the evening of February 26th, as reported by local news outlet WBRZ, citing police sources, Reidenauer was driving when her car was hit on the side by motorcyclist Bodhi Linton. Unfortunately, according to reports, both vehicles caught fire and both Reidenauer and Linton lost their lives at the accident scene.
TopMob News has reached out to local police for comment but has not yet heard back.
As per WBRZ, Linton’s mother, Juanita Z. Linton, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident that occurred in May 2024. She was 61 years old at the time of the incident. It is said that she collided with an SUV from behind and sustained head injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries later on.
After a successful pole vaulting career at Fontainebleau High School, which made her one of Louisiana’s top high school pole vaulters, Reidenauer then became part of LSU’s track and field team. In 2024, she came in second place at the LHSAA State 5A Championships, and as a junior, she finished fourth in the same competition.
Elicia Ocmond, the athletic director at the high school, praised Reidenauer as an exceptional student and a wonderful young person.
According to Nola.com, she mentioned that many children were unhappy. If you inquired from their teachers, they would describe her as a gentle and compassionate child.
Simiarlay, Reidenauer’s high school coach Sam Sanders sang his former athlete’s praises.
Dillon excelled both as a student and an athlete, a combination any coach would be thrilled to have on their team,” the statement said.
Sanders stated, “Her ambition was firmly fixed on LSU, and she was determined to accomplish this goal, no matter what steps she needed to take.
Additionally, the sports division at LSU expressed their sorrow over the passing of Reidenauer, who was studying interior design at the university. They highlighted the profound effect this tragic event has had on their team.
LSU track and field coach Dennis Shaver expressed deep sorrow over the untimely death of Dillon Reidenauer. In a post on the team’s website, he conveyed that we are all thinking about and praying for Dillon’s family during this difficult time. He also extended his sympathies to the loved ones of the other individual involved in the unfortunate incident.
He stated, “We’ll take all necessary steps to provide our student-athletes and staff with the resources required for coping with the sorrow caused by this tragic event.
