Kieran Culkin’s Shocking Decision to Quit Before His Oscar Triumph!

For Kieran Culkin, timing was a real pain.

On March 2, 2025, after receiving the Best Supporting Actor award at the Oscars, he opened up about the reasons behind his decision to leave the project “A Real Pain” before filming began.

Kieran, who has children Kinsey (5) and Wilder (3) with his wife Jazz Charton, clarified to reporters in the press room following his appearance at the Dolby Theater that the change in schedule just before production began was the reason for his decision, not any creative motivation. It would have kept him away from his kids for nearly a month.

He went on to say, “Initially, I hesitated, saying, ‘I’d rather not.’ However, I ended up being persuaded, and as you can see, I’m quite grateful for that now.

In a revealing statement, the 42-year-old actor expressed that embodying the character of Benji Kaplan in the movie, filmed in Warsaw, Poland, was the first time he had read a script and thought, “I completely get this person.

He pondered, “It seemed familiar as if I recognized this person, yet couldn’t place it precisely. I decided against delving deeper into the mystery since instinctively, upon reading about him, I thought, ‘I know who this person is.’ Instead, I chose to accept it and proceed.

As for the person to keep Kieran in the project? It was producer (and ex) Emma Stone.

He said to Vogue in September, “‘If you don’t perform this task, the entire film disintegrates, but remember it isn’t your duty. You shouldn’t feel that weight at all,'” he explained. “In a kind gesture, she absolved me of any blame.

And with the win at the 97th annual Academy Awards, Kieran might’ve also won a bigger family.

Approximately a year ago, Kieran found himself standing in a similar position, and rather impulsively, he blurted out during a live event that he wanted another child from her since she mentioned giving him one if he won the award. However, it was later discovered that she made this comment under the assumption that he wouldn’t win the award.

Following the performance, he reminisced about strolling across a parking area. She was clutching an Emmy award, and we were both searching for her vehicle. Suddenly, she exclaimed, “Oh dear, I did say that! Looks like I’ll have to give you another child.

However, Kieran admitted to her that he really wanted four kids.

He went on to say, “She looked at me then and declared, ‘I’ll reward you with four things when you earn an Academy Award.’ I extended my hand, and she acknowledged it. To this day, I haven’t mentioned it again, not even once – until now, do you recall that, dear?
