It’s highly likely that the game franchise “Gears of War” will launch on PlayStation 5 for the first time this year. Various sources are suggesting that a remastered version of the trilogy might be unveiled for the PlayStation platform as early as this summer.
However, there could be a catch: it may be missing competitive multiplayer.
On Twitter, under the handle DetectiveSeeds, there’s a user who hinted that the rumored collection is apparently now available on the PlayStation Store, set to launch in mid-August. They mentioned it would be optimized for the PS5 Pro but won’t include Player versus Player multiplayer modes.
Initially dismissing the story due to unconfirmed sources, the claim of no multiplayer has gained more credibility as Windows Central writer Jez Corden mentioned he too has heard the same.
There’s a logic to it, as each of the original three Gears of War games had distinct multiplayer modes. It wouldn’t feel right to simply gather them all together in one collection. Instead, while it’s possible to combine the trilogy’s maps and game modes into a unified package, this might not capture the authenticity that some fans are hoping for from such a compilation.
In case you recall, both Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and The Last of Us: Part 1 didn’t include a multiplayer mode.
It’s important to mention that “campaign co-op” isn’t explicitly mentioned, suggesting it might be a part of the game with the use of “will”. Previous reports have indicated that the trilogy could support crossplay, implying that some level of online interaction is likely intended.
Unfortunately, it seems that PS5 gamers might have to hold off until the release of Gears of War: E-Day to experience the franchise’s renowned competitive multiplayer mode for the first time.
