The hit animated series “Smiling Friends” is currently being developed for a new season on Adult Swim, with one of its creators offering an encouraging update about the production of upcoming episodes. Since its initial pilot episode was unveiled as part of Adult Swim’s April Fool’s Day jokes, “Smiling Friends” has been a massive success for the network. The full series unexpectedly premiered in one night several years ago and has since grown into a franchise by itself.
The second installment of “Smiling Friends” wrapped up in the previous year, and it wasn’t long before Adult Swim announced a third season. During a chat with Michael Cusack, the co-creator of “Smiling Friends,” ahead of his new series, “YOLO: Rainbow Trinity, due this weekend, ComicBook managed to squeeze in a question about the upcoming season. Although Cusack refrained from revealing any potential jokes or storylines for the upcoming episodes, he did share that he and co-creator Zach Hadel are currently writing and filming the new season.
Smiling Friends Season 3 Gets Promising Update
Michael Cusack of Smiling Friends, the show’s co-creator, expressed that they are making significant progress on Season 3, stating, “Things are going exceptionally well for us at the moment.” Having had two seasons to develop the characters, he added, “We’re more familiar with them now, and the writing process is smooth sailing.” While he aims to avoid spoilers, his enthusiasm is palpable as he assures us that production is underway. He further mentioned that his work on YOLO, another project, doesn’t hinder progress since he can easily switch between shows. In essence, he conveyed that everything is going smoothly with the production of Season 3.
When discussing the simultaneous creation of new episodes for YOLO, Cusack admitted to the difficulty involved, stating, “Quite often, an idea for YOLO will pop into my head, but I immediately question it, thinking ‘Would this work better in Smiling Friends? It’s a bit of a struggle. It was significantly harder during the early stages of Season One, as I had to avoid unconsciously incorporating elements from Smiling Friends. Now, as my mind becomes more adept at separating them, it’s becoming easier.
When Is Smiling Friends Season 3 Come Out?
The third season of “Smiling Friends” was officially confirmed by Adult Swim last Summer, meaning fans will probably have to wait a bit longer before they can watch the new episodes. John Cusack has revealed that the writing and production for the new season have already started, suggesting it won’t be too far off. However, given the intricate animation styles used throughout the series, it’s crucial for the creators to have ample time to ensure maximum impact.
Fans are really enjoying “Smiling Friends” as one of Adult Swim’s major franchises for today’s era because of its appeal.
