ITV is making some changes to tonight’s showings of Coronation Street and Emmerdale, only a week after launching its new combined “soap power hour” schedule.
ITV recently changed the times for its popular soaps. Starting January 6th with Coronation Street, both shows now air in consistent half-hour slots every weekday. Emmerdale moved to 8:00 PM, and Coronation Street now follows at 8:30 PM.
Despite a recent shift to a new permanent schedule, neither of ITV’s popular soap operas will be shown tonight, January 13th.
Instead, you can watch the Carabao Cup semi-final match between Newcastle United and Manchester City on ITV1, starting at 7:30 PM and ending at 10:25 PM.
Good news for fans! Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be back on air this week, airing as usual on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

As a huge TV fan, I was really interested to hear what ITV’s Kevin Lygo had to say about the changes to Corrie and Emmerdale’s schedule. Basically, he explained that they’re trying to give viewers more control over how they watch their favorite shows. With ITVX offering so much on-demand content already, they want to make sure the soaps are presented in a way that’s easy to fit into everyone’s lives – giving us what we want, when we want it.
With so many entertainment options and changing viewing habits, we think this episode length strikes a good balance, allowing fans to easily stay current with the series.
Emmerdale actor Chris Bisson, who plays Jai Sharma, recently shared that fans have been eager to see Emmerdale and Coronation Street cross over. He explained during a red carpet event for a special episode that this crossover will now happen as part of a new schedule on ITV, calling it a ‘soap power hour’.
He explained that people shouldn’t complain about Coronation Street’s schedule being changed for football, or about not knowing when it’s on. Now that the schedule is set – 8pm to 9pm every day – everyone knows what to expect.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
