A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star reveals which scene scored him high praise from George RR Martin

The Game of Thrones universe is growing! A new spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will begin streaming next week.

This new TV series is adapted from the stories by George RR Martin, collectively known as The Tales of Dunk and Egg by fans. The stories follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (known as Dunk) and his young apprentice, Egg.

Peter Claffey, known for his role in Bad Sisters, plays Dunk in the series, and newcomer Dexter Sol Ansell portrays Egg.

Ansell described a chaotic scene where he was hanging from a rope, desperately trying not to fall into the mud. Everyone was focused on directions from the stunt coordinator, CC Smiff, who was urgently trying to reposition a house and push the team to succeed.

Nobody was trying anything fancy. We were just having a real tug-of-war, and we were losing. So, I decided to put my feet on the rope and hang on as best I could, which was actually really fun. Then, we ended up winning, and Dunk started tossing me up in the air for a few shots.

This stunt went so well that I launched upwards and accidentally hit my eye on his nose during the landing. Surprisingly, they kept that take in the final cut, but edited out the part where I went up in the air.

He went on to explain that Peter, nicknamed Dunk, grabbed him, and then a chaotic chase broke out with everyone running around. He found the whole thing hilarious, just sitting there enjoying the scene. Then his mom came over to check if he was alright, and excitedly told him that George R.R. Martin was there, asking if he wanted to meet him. He said yes.

I approached him, and he told me I was fantastic, saying I seemed like I had stepped right out of the pages of a book. It was incredible to hear that from the person who created my character.

Ansell described his character as brave, playful, and enigmatic, hinting that there are hidden depths even he, as the actor, isn’t fully aware of.

Eleven-year-old Ansell is too young to watch Game of Thrones, and he actually feels good about that. He explains that his character wouldn’t have any idea what’s happening in the show, since his story, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, takes place roughly a hundred years before those events.

The new series features a talented cast including Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings, Sam Spruell, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, as well as Ansell and Claffey.

Starting January 19, 2026, you can watch ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ on Sky and NOW. If you’re interested in subscribing to Sky TV, here’s how.
