Well, if it isn’t the grand spectacle of human folly! Influencer Logan Paul, whom some might call a digital Clint Eastwood of the internet, has been granted the right to keep his legal guns drawn against the YouTuber known as “Coffeezilla.” A Texas magistrate judge, with a wisdom as deep as the Gulf of Mexico, has decreed that Paul’s lawsuit should proceed, accusing Coffeezilla of spouting defamatory remarks about the ill-fated CryptoZoo project. 🐉Thông وعدم
In a report as thick as a dictionary, filed in a federal court in San Antonio, Judge Henry Bemporad opined that Plaintiff Paul has sufficiently alleged that Coffeezilla’s statements are capable of defamatory meaning and not just mere opinion. Can you imagine that? In this day and age, where everyone is an “opinion” and no one has a fact? 🤷♂️
“The Court should reject the Defendant’s charming notion that context renders Coffeezilla’s statements nondefamatory,” Bemporad wrote, with all the flair of a southern preacher. Paul filed his lawsuit in June, claiming that one of Coffeezilla’s X posts and two YouTube videos tarnished his good name and reputation. 📢💔
CryptoZoo, for the uninitiated, was supposed to be a blockchain game where players could buy NFT “eggs” that would hatch into animals. These critters could then be bred to create unique animals, earning tokens based on their rarity. But alas, the game never saw the light of day. It’s like promising the moon and delivering a half-empty tin can. 🌕Trivia trivia Trivia trivia Trivia trivia Trivia trivia
Paul alleged that Coffeezilla called him “a serial scammer” and labeled CryptoZoo a “scam” and a “massive con.” Now, how one man can be accused of such things and still have the nerve to file a lawsuit is a mystery for the ages. 🤔][]][]][]][]]
Coffeezilla, not to be outdone, asked the court for an early judgment, claiming his statements were opinions and his videos had disclaimers. But Bemporad, with the sharpness of a razor, found that “Coffeezilla’s three statements meet the legal definition of defamatory” and that the disclaimers were as visible as a needle in a haystack. 🧭🗺️
Paul or Coffeezilla can object to Bemporad’s report within 14 days. If the lawyers for Paul and Coffeezilla don’t respond, it’s like watching paint dry on a slow day. 🕒]
Coffeezilla also released three videos in 2022 on CryptoZoo, which Paul didn’t sue over but threatened to. He later backtracked, apologized, and promised a plan for CryptoZoo. In January 2023, Paul earmarked $2.3 million for refunds, provided claimants agreed not to sue. It’s like offering a Band-Aid after chopping off someone’s arm. 🛢️💰
Meanwhile, a group of CryptoZoo buyers, feeling as betrayed as Judas, sued Paul and others involved in the business in a class-action lawsuit. Paul has asked to have this lawsuit tossed and has filed a counter-suit against two business partners he claims are to blame for CryptoZoo’s failure. It’s a regular soap opera of tech and finance. 📺🔥
