Hogwarts Legacy DLC plans are ‘cancelled’, but there is good news for fans

As a dedicated gamer diving into the magical world of Hogwarts Legacy, I must share some recent updates. Contrary to the buzz surrounding a potential expansion last year, it appears that the team has decided not to proceed with its development – at least for now. This decision might seem disappointing, but fear not! There’s a silver lining: while the Hogwarts Legacy DLC may have been put on hold, the main game continues to captivate us with its enchanting universe and endless opportunities for adventure. Keep your broomsticks ready and wands at the ready – there’s still plenty of magic to be made!

Initially released in February 2023, the game Hogwarts Legacy demonstrated remarkable financial triumph for its publishers, Warner Bros.

The game received positive feedback from critics as well, garnering a four-star rating from our team and an 84 average score on Metacritic.

It seems like for quite some time, fans have speculated about the potential contents of a Downloadable Content (DLC). However, recent indications suggest that this anticipated expansion may no longer be in the works.

This new information is provided by Jason Schreier, a well-respected gaming journalist who recently published an update on Bloomberg.

The report clearly sets out from the beginning that Warner Bros. Discovery Inc has decided to shelve its plans for an expansion of the widely-loved Hogwarts Legacy game.

According to reports, this appears to be a component of the continuous reorganization happening within the game division of the entertainment company.

News about additional content for Hogwarts Legacy, though unofficially confirmed, has been buzzing around. Yet it was never officially announced. This revelation might leave fans, eagerly anticipating another journey through Hogwarts, feeling a bit disappointed.

In simpler terms, Bloomberg mentioned that the expansion, which was intended to introduce fresh narratives into the initial game, was supposed to be released this year. This release would have coincided with a ‘Definitive Edition’, containing all the previously available content.

The report reveals a part of the plan: they intend to reinstate a plot connected to one of the original game’s comrades, which was left out during production.

It seems that Warner Bros. decided to scrap the Hogwarts Legacy DLC this week because they felt the content wasn’t extensive enough to warrant the proposed price tag.

However, as we mentioned at the start, there is good news!

According to the Bloomberg report, although the DLC (Downloadable Content) has been cancelled, Warner Bros is continuing development on Hogwarts Legacy 2 as a standalone follow-up game.

Regarding this topic, Avalanche Software, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. based in Salt Lake City, Utah, is currently working on a follow-up to the original game.

Despite not receiving a DLC expansion, there’s a strong likelihood that we will see a complete sequel in the series instead.

Additionally, an interesting tidbit from the report is that Rocksteady Studios, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. known for creating the Batman Arkham series and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, had been assisting with the development of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC until it was terminated.

Feel free to interpret this as you see fit, and we’ll inform you as soon as we learn more about Warner Bros’ upcoming gaming strategies.
