Binance Founder CZ’s Hilarious Fee Hike: Is He Cashing In or Just Having a Laugh?

In a turn of events that could only be described as a delightful romp through the world of cryptocurrency, Binance‘s illustrious founder, CZ, has decided to raise the fee for messaging him on the rather posh platform known as ReachMe. It appears that the poor chap was inundated with messages, and not the kind that would make one’s heart flutter with joy, but rather a deluge of spam and inquiries that could make a cat laugh. 🐱

On the 27th of March, CZ took to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter, but let’s not dwell on that) to regale his followers with tales of his escapades on ReachMe. Initially, he set the fee at a modest 0.04 Binance Coin (BNB), which translates to about $24 per message. However, it seems that the floodgates opened, and he was soon drowning in a sea of irrelevant questions. “How do I run a successful startup?” was a particular gem that must have made him chuckle into his morning tea. ☕

Not one to be easily deterred, CZ raised the price to 0.1 BNB ($60), but alas, the messages continued to pour in like rain on a British summer’s day. Finally, in a fit of exasperation, he settled on a princely sum of 0.2 BNB ($120) per message. His noble aim? To achieve a serene equilibrium of around 10 messages a day. But, as he himself mused, that might be as likely as finding a needle in a haystack. 🪡

“18 days ago, I published an article in Binance Square on a Pay to Reach idea. A few days later, a developer messaged me with a working prototype. After some discussions, adjustments, and a security review,

Yesterday, the product was live. I updated my…”

In a rather magnanimous twist, CZ has declared that he does not intend to line his pockets with the proceeds from this venture. Instead, he plans to donate the funds to charity. How very noble! One can only imagine the conversations he must have with his accountant. “No, no, I’m not making money, just trying to manage the masses!”

It was on the 8th of March that CZ first unveiled his grand vision for a pay-to-reach platform in an article on Binance Square. He argued, quite convincingly, that traditional messaging systems like LinkedIn and X are akin to open floodgates, inviting all manner of spammy inquiries. His brilliant idea was to create a system where the so-called Key Opinion Leaders could charge a fee for receiving messages, thus filtering out the riff-raff. 🎩

In his proposed model, if a KOL failed to respond within five days, half of the fee would be refunded to the sender. A clever little scheme, indeed! This way, the sender would still feel the pinch, while the KOL would be incentivized to respond. And let’s not forget, the platform would take a 10% cut, leaving a generous 90% for the recipient. It’s a win-win, or so they say!

Just 18 days after sharing this brilliant concept, a developer reached out to CZ with a working prototype. After a few rounds of discussions and a thorough security review (because one must always be cautious in the wild west of crypto), the platform went live. While ReachMe is still in its infancy, CZ’s endorsement, along with potential backing from YZi Labs (formerly Binance Labs), could very well catapult it into the stratosphere of platforms where professionals can monetize their accessibility. 🚀
