SIR.trading Offers $100K Bounty to Hacker After Losing Entire TVL to Exploit

“Bounty for the Bounty Hunter: $100K Offered to Crypto Thief”

And so, it begins. The tale of a decentralized finance protocol, SIR.trading, which lost its entire total value locked to an exploit. But in a bizarre twist, the protocol’s creator, Xatarrer, has offered the attacker a $100K bounty to return the remaining funds. Because, you know, honesty is the best policy… especially when you’re facing a $400K loss 🤑.

On March 31, Xatarrer, the anonymous creator behind the Ethereum-based platform, made a direct on-chain plea to the hacker. We can only assume this was a thinly veiled attempt to appeal to the attacker’s sense of morality… or maybe just their wallet 💸.

Here’s the full text of Xatarrer’s message to the attacker:

“I’m asking you to keep $100,000 as a ‘fair share’ for finding a critical vulnerability. We promise no legal action will be pursued if the remaining funds are returned. No hard feelings, mate. We’re just trying to survive.”

What’s that, you ask? No hard feelings? The creator of SIR.trading built the platform from scratch over four years, pouring their heart and soul (and $70,000 of their friends’ and supporters’ money) into it. It’s not like they just slapped some code together in a weekend 🤦‍♂️.

With no backing from venture capital firms, the protocol had grown organically to around $400,000 in TVL before the exploit drained it all. Talk about a fintastic fail 🐟. And don’t even get us started on the attack itself, which involved manipulating Ethereum’s transient storage… yadda yadda yadda… long story short, the attacker was a real ninja 🥷.

Xatarrer even acknowledged the skill involved in the exploit, calling the attack “almost beautiful if it wasn’t for all the funds people lost.” Ah, the elegance of a good hack 🌟.

if you’re reading this, you’re probably laughing all the way to the bank 🏦. But just in case you’re feeling guilty, SIR.trading’s founder is still holding out hope that you’ll return the remaining funds and do the right thing… right? 🤔
