The filmmaking team of Danny and Michael Philippou are looking forward to creating a sequel to their 2022 blockbuster “Talk to Me“, but fans may have to wait a while, possibly until 2027 or even 2028. The siblings shared this update during a press event for their upcoming movie “Bring Her Back”, which is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on May 30th. They mentioned that they currently have two scripts under consideration, suggesting that production could start soon. In the interim, there are other significant projects in the works for fans to look forward to, and the delay in “Talk 2 Me” is partly due to their meticulous attention to detail.
Danny Philippou expressed that he’s having trouble choosing between two potential paths, as he’s currently considering two distinct scripts, each featuring different characters and storylines. He further mentioned his intention to dedicate the remainder of this year to collaborating on a secretive horror movie project with Bill Hinzman. However, he chose not to disclose any specifics about the film. Meanwhile, Danny’s brother Michael has scheduled the entire year for a documentary focusing on “death match wrestling,” which he is producing in Mexico.
Michael summed up as follows: “By 2025, let’s have her back; in 2026, a documentary; a horror movie in 2027, and then perhaps Talk to Me 2. I’m not sure though.” Danny interjected with a laugh, “So, by the time we’re around 50, we’ll make Talk to Me 2.
If you find this timeline underwhelming, take comfort in knowing that the duo have been reviewing scripts and deliberating over the direction for this eagerly-awaited sequel. It’s also relevant to mention that A24 has already made a public announcement about the sequel, even bestowing it with its playful title. Nevertheless, the studio has only initiated the development phase, which means there’s yet to be any significant financial investment.
When “Speak to Me” debuted in 2022, it was warmly received by critics and had modest commercial success. While its box office performance may seem small compared to modern blockbusters, horror enthusiasts found it an intriguing foundation for a potential new series. The plot revolves around a group of teenagers meddling with powers they shouldn’t, unknowingly summoning something ominous. They acquire what appears to be a severed, embalmed hand that supposedly enables its holder to communicate with spirits from the other side by uttering the phrase “Speak to me.
In this ritual, the characters undergo intense, exhilarating moments, yet they often overstep boundaries. The narrative carries a somber, recurring pattern reminiscent of classic horror series, and some viewers felt that perhaps the blueprint for modern horror was at last worth revisiting and refining. Simultaneously, these same spectators are eager to witness the Philippou brothers venture into new territory with Bring Her Back, which is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 30th, Friday.
