In an exclusive interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki unveiled that FromSoftware’s upcoming game, Elden Ring Nightreign, introduces fresh elements to its format by incorporating multiplayer. Meanwhile, The Duskbloods marks another step forward in this direction, as the studio adds unique player interaction features, including the ability for players to assume different roles.
In the world of online gaming, each role assigned to a player comes with specific duties and goals. These unique assignments frequently foster unusual exchanges and bonds among players, as their roles determine how they interact with one another.
In simpler terms, one character (referred to as the “Destined Rival” or “Destined Companion”) needs to find another character who is their rival or companion respectively. The goal for the “Destined Rival” is to defeat their counterpart, while the “Destined Companion” aims to work with their partner. Although these tasks don’t directly determine the match winner, they serve as personal objectives that offer rewards upon completion.
It’s worth mentioning that these names may change, but the roles give an additional element of role-play as they are determined by customizing one’s fictitious bloodline and destiny. Notably, Miyazaki acknowledged this resembles a tabletop RPG, although it wasn’t necessarily planned deliberately.
There’s a bit of my personal taste in this, and it could appear unusual initially, but I truly believe it’s worth exploring.
Titled “The Duskbloods,” this game is centered around PvEvP combat, where the Bloodsworn fight for the first victory as humanity faces its decline, often referred to as twilight. Expected to release next year on Nintendo Switch 2, it boasts a variety of playable characters, each with distinct abilities and weapons, totaling about a dozen options.
