Nintendo Switch 2 Leak Suggests Preorders Resuming Soon

The initial release date for pre-orders of the Nintendo Switch 2 was set for April 9th, but due to ongoing tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump in the U.S., these pre-orders were delayed in both the United States and Canada. Recently, the tariff on Vietnamese-made goods has decreased significantly, from 46% to only 10%. Though Nintendo enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating a new preorder date for Switch 2 since then, no official announcement has been made. However, recent leaks hint that preorders will start on April 23rd, although this is yet unconfirmed.

Based on trusted source billbil-kun’s leaks, Canadian retailers are currently taking preorders for both the standard console and the “Mario Kart World” bundle. Billbil-kun mentions that this date could change and he isn’t sure if it applies to U.S. retailers as well. However, since Canadian preorders have been deliberately delayed to coordinate with Nintendo of America, it’s likely that U.S. preorders will follow suit if the Canadian ones begin next Wednesday. Here’s the link to billbil-kun’s post for further reference.

Based on information available through certain Canadian retailers, it appears that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 console and bundles could begin as early as April 23rd, 2025 (for Canada). However, this date may change. At this time, I can’t confirm if the same applies to the US, but I will update you if more information becomes available.

Before an official statement from Nintendo, it’s wise for readers to approach this information cautiously. However, it’s worth noting that the proposed date aligns well with the circumstances. The recent U.S. tariffs have caused quite a stir, and Nintendo appears to be expediting preorders in response. The company asserts its commitment to the June 5th launch date for the Switch 2, but potential buyers should verify whether they’ll be able to reserve one, and if the initial price will stay consistent. Analysts speculate that the price may hold steady due to reduced Vietnam tariffs, but this isn’t a guaranteed fact.

Back in early 2025, I, as a dedicated Nintendo fan, was thrilled to hear that the company’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, had a clever plan to sidestep potential tariffs on China. He intended to import games and consoles from Vietnam and Cambodia instead. However, the plan seemed to take a turn for the worse when President Trump unexpectedly announced a 46% tariff on Vietnam imports, just a day after Nintendo confirmed the system’s price and release date. This led to the delay of preorders, and there was a strong possibility that the $449 price might rise.

Thankfully, the tariff has been reduced since then, and it looks like Nintendo is stockpiling its systems from Vietnam once more. Yet, with the ever-changing U.S. tariff plans, I can’t help but wonder if Nintendo is just biding their time to ensure things stabilize before making a move.

If it’s true that Nintendo will start preorders next week, then we might hear about it within the next couple of days. A special Nintendo Direct focused on Mario Kart World is scheduled for April 17th (Thursday). It’s possible that an announcement could follow this showcase. Here’s hoping the wait will soon be over!
