Grandson Stabbed Politician and Her Husband

More information is emerging about the attack on Bobbie Mitchell.

Following a suspected stabbing incident reportedly carried out by his grandmother’s grandson, Mitchell Reinacher, that left a Texas politician hospitalized and killed Fred Mitchell (her husband), newly released police records offer additional insights into the sequence of events as described by authorities.

Based on an arrest affidavit obtained by NBC 5 Dallas Fort-Worth, it was reported around 4 a.m. on April 21 that someone inside the victims’ home had called the police, claiming they saw someone with a knife. The individual who took the emergency call allegedly heard screams and signs of a struggle.

Based on the records, it was noted that the officer arriving at the scene discovered a white, four-door car parked outside the Mitchells’ residence, with its headlights on and the passenger door ajar. Before he heard any screams emanating from inside the house, this was observed.

Inside the house, the officer encountered the suspect, later identified as the grandson, standing near the body of Fred Mitchell who had multiple stab wounds to the chest. The officer immediately apprehended the 23-year-old suspect and escorted him out of the residence.

The report states, as per NBC 5, that the police discovered Bobbie inside the house with severe injuries. Notably, the Denton County commissioner informed the officers at the scene that “Bobbie’s grandson forced his way into their home, declared his intention to kill them, went to the kitchen to grab a knife, returned to their bedroom, and started stabbing both Bobbie and her husband.

Police apparently discovered a 6-inch serrated steak knife, stained with blood, in the residence. The knife’s blade appeared to have been bent at a right angle, leading police to suggest that this was evidence of “the significant force used to brandish it against Fred and Bobbie Mitchell.

According to the records, their grandson, who had been residing with them starting from late 2024, was informed of his Miranda rights and chose not to converse with law enforcement. He is at present detained in the Denton County Jail under a $600,000 bond, charged with murder and aggravated assault involving a dangerous weapon.

At a Commissioners Court gathering on April 22nd, as reported by The Dallas Morning News, Denton County Judge Andy Eads took a moment of quiet reflection in tribute to the Mitchell family.

Besides commending Bobby for her devoted service, the judge also acknowledged Fred in these words: “Though he wasn’t elected or appointed, Fred served faithfully as well, standing steadfastly by Bobby, her supportive partner in politics.
