The TikTok community has lost a beloved member: Dominique McShain.
Reports from People magazine indicate that the content creator passed away at the age of 21, a year following her diagnosis with an incurable form of colon cancer.
A few short weeks ago, the well-known online figure, who had been open about her health struggles to increase understanding of her condition, posted what she referred to as her “last message” prior to passing away. She revealed that she was receiving palliative care, signifying the end stages of her life.
In a post on Instagram dated April 6th, she shared that a diagnosis made five days prior indicates her remaining time could be as short as a few days or up to a few weeks. Her liver is deteriorating at an alarming rate, causing jaundice, and the cancer is advancing swiftly. As a result, she’s no longer eligible for any treatments, including the chemotherapy she’s been undergoing for seven months last year.
TopMob News has reached out to a rep for Dominique for comment but has not heard back.
Even though her life ended tragically, Dominique emphasized that she made the most of her brief time on earth. She traveled extensively and got married to Sean Suson in July, among other things.
Indeed, there are numerous significant milestones in adulthood that I won’t get to live through, opportunities I won’t have, and I’ve had to learn to cope with this reality,” she explained further. “The sadness I feel about what I’m missing out on has lessened significantly. Lately, I’ve discovered a feeling of peace, a sense of acceptance.
In April 2024, a student from New Zealand initially disclosed her diagnosis. She revealed on Instagram that medical professionals had given her a prognosis of one to five years and required immediate treatment, causing her to abruptly end her university education. However, she found meaning in her hardship by utilizing social media as a platform to assist others.
She expressed in a video uploaded on TikTok in May, “I desired to create an impact and have something lasting, with the hope of assisting others.” Aware that colon cancer is becoming more prevalent among younger individuals, she eventually wanted to discuss her symptoms openly to increase awareness. Her goal was for others to detect it earlier – perhaps even before herself.
