As a supporter, I had the privilege of witnessing Bryce Dallas Howard portray Gwen Stacy in a movie, and that role led me to one of the most iconic moments in superhero cinema: the “emo Peter” jazz club scene. Now, she’s shared her experiences during its filming.
During his appearance on the show, Horowitz discussed Howard’s part in the third Sam Raimi Spider-Man film. He noted that “it’s uncommon for a Spider-Man movie to feature an extended dance sequence in a jazz club,” – indeed, Spider-Man 3 did have multiple dance sequences, making it quite distinct from what viewers had anticipated – and he sought Howard’s opinion on the matter.
She mentioned that she felt it required numerous practice sessions for Tobey Maguire and herself to accomplish something not extraordinarily impressive, but she chuckled while saying this. “Actually, it was enjoyable,” she continued. “It was intriguing because Sam Raimi… the making of Spider-Man 2 left me astounded since it subtly poked fun at Marvel, long before Marvel became a household name.
Expanding on this, Howard expressed that the filming of Spider-Man 3 was delightful due to its playful and irreverent tone. Despite the existence of many critics, Howard found herself enjoying the movie. She continued, “Tobey and I rehearsed that dance extensively, and it was one of those enjoyable scenarios where we were shooting late into the night, everyone was tired but still having a great time.
Horowitz noted that the topic is still being discussed, implying they created something remarkable. Howard concurred, and both shared a laugh over their unique creation.
Spider-Man 3 Has Plenty Of Defenders
While Spider-Man 3 may not be held in the same high regard as Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, or other installments, it does have its dedicated audience. Fans enjoyed a unique portrayal of Gwen Stacy, a character who, as she is known to perish in the comics, was given a different outcome here. The actor playing her, Howard, seemed to relish the role.
At the Fan Expo Canada convention in 2024, Howard shared his memories, “I found my path into the world of Spider-Man primarily through Sam Raimi’s films, and especially after the second one. I was so captivated that I felt, ‘Wow, I have to be a part of something like this!’ And I couldn’t wait to play Gwen Stacy.” He continued, “It was an amazing, unforgettable experience. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was pregnant with my son, who is now 17. He has blonde hair and enjoys rock climbing. I can’t help but think that it’s all thanks to Spider-Man!
