The CEO of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, contends that their business model is instrumental in revitalizing the film industry, often referred to as “Hollywood”. Although they had a DVD rental service for quite some time beforehand, it was in 2007 when Netflix introduced their streaming platform.
Speaking as a movie buff, I’ve been thrilled to hear that according to Deadline, Ted Sarandos claims that Netflix is not just a part of Hollywood, but it’s actively contributing to its resurgence. Here’s a direct quote from Sarandos: “Netflix is saving Hollywood by giving artists more opportunities to tell stories and reach audiences in new ways.
Yes, we’re reinventing Hollywood.” Here’s why: Netflix is all about the consumer, and we cater to their preferences by offering content in a way that suits their viewing habits. So, it seems the consumer is expressing a desire for watching movies at home. I think the traditional theater release model might be outdated for many people, but not for everyone.
