Tonight, April 24, 2025, you won’t find new episodes of the Law and Order series on NBC as they’ve decided to take a break. While Season 5 of Law & Order: Organized Crime has been airing new episodes on Peacock, the two network installments of the franchise are temporarily halting their broadcasts. This pause is particularly disappointing given that it follows a powerful crossover episode centered around the demise of Maria Recinos, a police officer who was once saved from a harrowing situation by Benson (Mariska Hargitay), a character from the series.
During the two-hour special episode, characters Benson from SVU and Brady from Law & Order found themselves often at odds regarding the case’s management. When an arrest was made, Benson opposed the DA’s office’s move to summon a traumatized rape victim unwilling to testify. Thankfully, this tale had a standalone conclusion, meaning no major plot twists were left unresolved until after the break. However, it remains frustrating that we must wait for future episodes in seasons 24 of Law & Order and season 26 of SVU.
Why There Are No New Law & Order & Law & Order: SVU Tonight (April 24, 2025)
The Network Is Airing Reruns Instead
On April 24, instead of showing reruns of Suits: LA in place of the Law & Order franchise as has been the case previously, NBC will be airing old episodes of Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU. Specifically, at 8 PM ET, NBC will broadcast Law & Order season 24, episode 3 featuring Ryan Eggold as Riley’s troubled brother, followed by a rerun of Law & Order: SVU season 26, episode 7 where Carisi is chasing a pedophile and Bruno works to solve a serial rape case.
What NBC is Airing In Place Of New Episodes of The Law And Order Franchise On April 24, 2025 | |
---|---|
Episode | Time |
Law & Order season 24, episode 3, “Big Brother” | 8 PM ET |
Law & Order: SVU season 26, episode 7, “TenFold” | 9 PM ET |
Networks often take short breaks towards the end of April to ensure they have enough fresh episodes for each show to run until mid-May. This is usually when network TV seasons wind down for summer. This pause also gives the production crew a chance to catch up if they’ve fallen behind schedule, ensuring new episodes will be broadcast on time.
When Will Law & Order Season 24, Episode 20 & Law & Order: SVU Season 26, Episode 20 Release?
This Hiatus Is Very Short
Luckily, the hiatus won’t stretch beyond a week, and starting from May 1, 2025, fresh episodes of Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU will be back on our screens. Although it may feel inconvenient, this brief pause is much shorter than the winter break that extended from late November 2024 to well after New Year’s Day. Moreover, this could very well be the final hiatus before both shows conclude their seasons for summer, as the new episodes slated for the end of the TV season are set to air.
Taking a week’s break provides viewers with the opportunity to catch up on any missed episodes from both Law & Order season 24 and Law & Order: SVU season 26. These episodes, already broadcasted on television networks, can be streamed effortlessly on Peacock. Moreover, episode 3 of Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 has been released on Peacock, allowing viewers to watch it at their leisure while they await the next episodes from other Law & Order series.
What To Expect From Law & Order Season 24, Episode 20 & Law & Order: SVU Season 26, Episode 20
On May 1st, the latest episodes will delve into the intricate plots, unexpected twists, and complex legal dilemmas that are synonymous with the Law & Order series. Specifically, in episode 20 of season 25, titled “Sins of The Father,” characters Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) and Riley (Reid Scott) will investigate the murder of a suspected shady auto mechanic. This installment is expected to offer an exciting twist in the legal narrative, as the DA’s office may be compelled to confront the truth about who truly perpetrated this vicious crime.
The “Law & Order” series continues with the 20th episode of season 26 from “Law & Order: SVU,” titled “Shock Collar.” This potentially chilling installment centers on a car theft where a young girl was in the back seat, leading to speculation as to whether she was the thieves’ intended target or if her presence was mere coincidence. In addition, this episode will see Rollins making another appearance, possibly becoming actively involved in the case rather than just providing support for Carisi during his trauma.
