In essence, Ant Anstead and Renée Zellweger have no obligation to share details about their private relationship with others. However, there’s someone Ant would like to acknowledge for facilitating his chance encounter with the two-time Oscar winner on the TV show “Celebrity IOU Joyride” in 2021.
In an interview with Extra in August 2021, Ant expressed gratitude, saying, “It’s funny because the show is called IOU, and it’s actually Discovery+, it’s I owe you. Thank you,” referring to the dating services provided. “You can now remove me from your database. I can recommend you to all my single friends.”
It appears that Ant and Renée are going strong, as he described her as “really lovely” and their relationship as “kind of amazing.” On the show, where celebrities express gratitude by creating custom cars for people who have significantly impacted their lives, Renée worked with Ant and his cohost Cristy Lee to restore a Ford Bronco and Oldsmobile 442 Convertible for brothers Jerome and Jerald Cowan, who took care of Renée’s friend and publicist Nanci Ryder during her battle with ALS before her death in 2020. It’s possible that Nanci played a role in bringing Renée and Ant together, as they often joke about this possibility.
Through their collaborative work on the show, Ant discovered more intriguing details about Renee, such as the fact that her British accent on the big screen was not genuine.
“Is it true that Renée Zellweger from Bridget Jones isn’t actually British?” Ant inquired of Cristy during the episode, expressing his disappointment. “You’re like a dream-killer for me.”
Not only was he captivated by her acting talents, but he also admired her car mechanic skills.
“We have a two-time Oscar winner not just lying on her back under a Bronco; she even has rust on her face!” Ant exclaimed at one point in the show. “I’d give her a job.”
However, instead of offering her employment, he ended up giving her his heart. Although Ant and Renee’s relationship began on camera, they have since kept much of it private.
“She’s a very private person,” he told Entertainment Tonight in August 2021, “and that’s what I truly admire about her.
It’s not surprising that Ant has chosen to keep his personal relationships private following his public marriage and divorce from Christina Haack. The hosts of ‘Wheelers Dealers’ and HGTV stars split in 2020, after less than two years of marriage, and their contentious custody battle over their 5-year-old son Hudson made headlines.
However, Ant and Christina, who have since reached a better understanding, even collaborated on her show ‘The Flip Off’ with her first ex-husband Tarek El Moussa, sharing parental responsibilities for Taylor (14) and Brayden (9), Tarek’s children from his previous marriage.
In an episode aired in February, Christina shared, “Ant and I split up when Hudson was 1, and now Hudson is 5. Between the time of his first birthday and his fifth, we didn’t communicate much. After Josh and I separated, I went to pick up Hudson for a birthday party. When I reached the door, he gave me a big hug. We hadn’t hugged in years. He said, ‘I’m sorry for everything you’re going through, and I’m here for you no matter what you need.'”
Christina continued, “It was a very nice moment, and we had a long talk after that. We decided to put aside our differences and be good co-parents, like Tarek and I are, for Hudson.”
Now, Christina—who is dating Christopher Larocca—seems supportive of Ant’s new relationship with Renee, even liking an Instagram post he shared in honor of Renee’s recent movie ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’.
It’s clear from just a few of his affectionate messages that this couple is deeply in love. For instance, on Instagram in January, he gushed about a movie they watched together, praising the lead actress as “mesmerizing and smoking hot.” He even admitted to having a crush on her and jokingly told his partner that she was his ‘hall pass.’
Although Ant doesn’t often share much about his relationship with Renée, it’s evident that she values romantic gestures and believes they shouldn’t be limited to special occasions like Valentine’s Day. As the star of Chicago put it, “You should send notes every day. I think it’s never a bad idea to leave a sweet note.”
As they approach their fourth year together, Ant and Renée seem to still be going strong, living in Southern California. When asked about her location by Bridget Jones costar Hugh Grant for British Vogue, Renée replied, “That’s where my fellow lives, ‘and his little boy.'”

Attending the London premiere of Renee’s movie, ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,’ on a chilly January night in 2025 was nothing short of magical for me! It was a family affair as I brought my two grown children, Amelie and Archie, along. The little ones, Hudson and I share custody with my ex-wife, Christina Haack.
I couldn’t help but share my enthusiasm on Instagram the very next day: “Midweek movie night with the kiddos…! The movie was simply outstanding, and the lead actress was captivating and smoking hot (I’ve had a crush on her for a while now, can’t hide it!) I’ve even given my wife the green light – she’s my ‘hall pass.’

He even playfully messaged Renée’s co-star Leo Woodall, who plays one of her love interests in the film, saying, “Oh, and Leo… we should have a quiet chat in a secluded spot… x”
Yet, he wasn’t alone in his admiration. When an Instagram commenter shared a fond memory with Renee and called it “one of the most cherished moments,” Ant replied, “I understand! She’s one of the best people I have ever encountered…!
