Valkyrie of Phantasm coming to PS5, Switch in 2025

Developers Areazero and publisher PLAYISM are planning to launch the fast-paced shooting battle game titled “Valkyrie of Phantasm” on both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in the year 2025, as they have officially announced.

Initially made available through Early Access on Steam for PCs on October 23, 2022, the game titled Valkyrie of Phantasm later had its official launch on October 18, 2024.

New playable characters will be made available for download following the initial console release.

Engage in an exhilarating shooting action game, where you take control of characters hailing from the Touhou Project series! This game showcases breathtaking aerial combat at breakneck speeds across the skies of Gensokyo. As you deftly dodge an onslaught of bullets, each with unique spells, you’ll find yourself in the midst of spellbinding danmaku battles unlike any other!

Story

A meteorite suddenly crashes into Gensokyo.

A fissure emerges on its metal, oval shape, and tiny specks of light radiate from the splits, scattering quickly in every direction.

Eventually, they reach the most powerful residents of Gensokyo.

One of the lights approaches Reimu Hakurei, enveloping her. Then, it metamorphoses into an appearance resembling an armor suit.

A name echoes in her head, and she repeats it out loud:

“Valkyrie Arms…”

Noticing a potential occurrence, she lets out a deep breath and glances towards where the light appeared.

In a heartbeat, I’m soaring skyward, vanishing as swiftly as thought, with only a radiant streak of red light serving as my fleeting trace.

“My body feels so light…”

In a blink of an eye, Reimu discovers that it’s her Valkyrie Arms which have granted her unprecedented speed during flight.

In quest of the answer to who bestowed this power upon her and its intended purpose, Reimu hastens along her journey… However, not much time passes before she encounters an obstacle that blocks her path.

“Looks like I’m not the only one.”

Before Reimu stands another girl dressed in Valkyrie Armor. Like her, this girl also wears the same armor outfit. Both have been bestowed with the same power and are aware of the tasks that lay ahead…

And thus, a high-speed danmaku battle begins.

The character, “Valkyrie of Phantasm,” derives its inspiration from the “Touhou” series but offers a fresh, unique narrative penned by its creators, showcasing their personal perspectives on the world and its characters. This is an independent fan creation within the “Touhou Project,” developed by Areazero.

Game System

  • Basic Actions
    • Attack – Perform a close-range melee attack.
    • Shot – Shoot bullets; hold for rapid-fire.
    • Spell – Cast a powerful bullet pattern spell.
    • Step – Perform a quick evasion.
    • Boost Dash – Dash mid-flight at high-speeds.
    • Guard – Put up a barrier to block attacks.
  • Special Actions
    • Accel Drive – Power up temporarily (raises movement speed, motion speed, and attack power). The increase in stats depends on the number of charges in the Drive Gauge. Level 1 to Level 3 + Level MAX. Has burst effects.
    • Accel Drive Spell – A powerful spell only usable during Accel Drive.
    • Ultimate Spell – An extremely powerful spell only usable at Level MAX.
    • Charged Melee Attack – Has a guard-breaking effect. Shatters the guard and staggers the opponent.
    • Rush Attack – A mid-range charge attack.
    • Side Attack – A high-speed flank attack (take two steps at a right angle and attack from the flank).
    • Backstep Attack – Do a backstep and then attack.
    • Boost Dash Attack – A powerful strike dealt after a Boost Dash that staggers the opponent.
    • Step Cancel – Take a step to cancel the idle time in between attack actions.

Number of Players

  • One-to-four-player battles.

*Multiplayer requires online play.
