Though countless gamers (potentially even more than just millions) are delighting in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, a recent update has significantly diminished the gaming experience for those playing via PC Game Pass.
Users playing Oblivion Remastered via the Xbox PC app began reporting issues after receiving an update on Friday, with some posting on Reddit about lost game settings following the update.
Of particular note, gamers can no longer utilize upscaling technologies such as DLSS, causing the game to default to its original resolution instead.
Consequently, the cost of running the game significantly increases, making it challenging for numerous players to sustain a consistent frame rate as they traverse the landscapes of Cyrodiil.
PC Game Pass performance woes
This is hardly the first time we’ve seen issues with the PC Game Pass versions of games.
Earlier this year, Ninja Gaiden 2: Black, an unexpected release, found its way directly onto Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Upon playing, users noticed that the PC Game Pass edition was missing out on DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology.
Ultimately, it got fixed, but it’s really frustrating to handle the absence of scaling options when I want to play a game.
As more games incorporate complex features such as ray tracing, Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), and FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), among others, scalable rendering technologies become increasingly important for allowing gamers with less modern hardware to play new games without performance issues.
For some minority gamers, it’s even more aggravating because The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered doesn’t offer cross-save functionality between Xbox and Steam platforms yet.
Xbox Play Anywhere compatibility ensures that the Xbox Series X|S edition of the game can save progress across both Xbox and PC if played through Game Pass, however, it’s important to note that the game’s requirements for running on the PC have become significantly higher.
I’m optimistic that the issue will get resolved by Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos swiftly. Additionally, it would be great if cross-save compatibility between Xbox and Steam platforms could be implemented at an early stage.
