Harry Lawtey’s 10 Best Movies & TV Shows

Harry Lawtey, a rising talent from Britain, has made a mark for himself with standout performances in prominent TV shows and popular film series. Born on October 26, 1996, in Oxford, England, Lawtey’s acting journey began early, much like many English actors, who start on stage. His first professional screen appearance was at the age of 16 in 2012, where he featured in an episode of the British science fantasy series, “Wizards vs Aliens”.

Over the next few years, I found myself appearing in minor television roles, gradually building my recognition until 2020, when I was cast in a significant role for the series “Industry,” a British drama centered around a renowned investment bank in London. It’s through this character, Robert Spearing, that many fans have become acquainted with my young yet promising talent. Simultaneously, while working on this high-profile series, I’ve continued to take on film and other television projects, and it’s evident that I harbor lofty ambitions for myself based on the roles I choose to embrace.

10. Marcella (2016-2021)

Andrew (2 Episodes, 2018)

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the British Nordic noir TV series, “Marcella,” is now streaming on Netflix. Much like other Nordic crime shows, it’s a gripping tale. I find myself immersed in the storyline, following the journey of Marcella Backland (Anna Friel), a former London detective who steps back into her professional life when an old cold case from 11 years ago is re-opened. A serial killer she had been chasing has resurfaced, adding another layer of complexity to her investigation. At home, things are far from peaceful. Her husband has departed, and her children are still at boarding school, leaving Marcella to grapple with both professional and personal challenges.

This series is a captivating blend of crime dramas inspired by both British and Nordic productions. Harry Lawtey portrays the character Andrew for only two episodes during season 2, but despite its limited screen time, his somber portrayal suits him well, as evidenced in his work on shows like “The Pale Blue Eye” and “You & Me“.

9. Chuggington (2008-2021)

Daley (2 Episodes, 2015)

Harry Lawtey lends his voice to the character of Daley in the animated children’s show titled “Chuggington“. This series is designed for preschoolers and is set in the imaginative town of Chugginton where young, train-like characters are learning to work on the tracks full-time. These train characters regularly interact with humans, whether they are passengers or crew members. Each episode teaches a valuable lesson about topics such as friendship, determination, and conflict resolution.

Fundamentally, Chuggington resembles a revamped edition of Thomas & Friends. It’s a commendable contribution to the collection of animated children’s shows. Daley, a quick and vibrant cargo train with a red and white color scheme, swiftly delivers packages at breakneck speed. Over time, he delegates some of his tasks to Koko, another swift train. The voice acting might not be overly expressive, but Lawtey’s involvement in such a role showcases his adaptability and dedication to acting professionally, regardless of the format.

8. Wizards Vs. Aliens (2012-2014)

Young Mark France (1 Episode, 2012)

Harry Lawtey’s debut professional role was in the science fiction fantasy TV show “Wizards vs Aliens,” produced by the BBC. This series follows the escapades of Tom Clarke (Scott Haran), a 16-year-old wizard, as he battles an alien force intent on annihilating the remaining magic on Earth. Similar to “Doctor Who” for a newer audience, “Wizards vs Aliens” is a quirky, unconventional, yet entertaining three-season series that boasts intelligent characters and valuable lessons for children.

In the first episode of season 1, titled “Dawn of the Nekross, Part 1”, Lawtey is introduced as Mark France, a wizard who gets captured by extraterrestrials. The aliens try to drain his magical powers using an apparatus called the Extractor, which also causes him to age prematurely. However, luck favors him when Tom arrives in the nick of time to rescue him. Although it’s a minor part, Lawtey effectively showcases his acting skills as a novice performer.

7. The Letter For The King (2020)

Maurice (6 Episodes, 2020)

The Letter for the King is a Netflix-produced coming-of-age fantasy-adventure series, adapted from the 1962 novel of the same name by Tonke Dragt, a Dutch author. The six-episode series centers around Tiuri (Amir Wilson), an aspiring knight, who unwittingly embarks on a risky mission to deliver a vital letter to King Favian (Yorick van Wageningen), residing in the treacherous region known as the Great Mountains. This series seamlessly blends elements of teen comedy and intricate low fantasy adventure.

Harry Lawtey consistently plays Maurice across all episodes of the series, however, his character doesn’t hold a significant screen time. In the same year, Lawtey was featured in Industry and The Letter for the King, but the characters he portrayed were strikingly dissimilar. These roles illustrate an entirely different path that Lawtey might have pursued if he had chosen to do so. Instead, he opted for a more dramatic acting career, which has proved successful for him.

6. Magpie Murders (2022)

Robert Blakiston (6 Episodes, 2022)

In my view, I’ve found myself captivated by the intriguing television series “Magpie Murders,” which was inspired by Anthony Horowitz’s 2016 mystery novel and aired on PBS’ Masterpiece in 2022. This gripping drama is an adaptation of the initial book from the Susan Ryeland series, where our protagonist, book editor Susan Ryeland (played by Lesley Manville), is meticulously wrapping up the final edits for the latest bestselling novel by Atticus Pünd. The twist comes when she realizes that the last chapter has mysteriously gone missing, and upon further investigation, she uncovers that the author has met an untimely end. What follows is a thrilling tale of clues, hints, and unraveling the truth about the writer’s death.

Harry Lawtey features prominently across all six installments of the series, portraying Robert Blakiston – a character embedded within a narrative within a narrative. In the Atticus Pünd books, Robert is Mary Blakiston’s son, who is discovered deceased in her residence. Initially considered the prime suspect for his mother’s murder, it’s later revealed that he wasn’t the culprit, but he does bear responsibility for a string of other murders. The series can be quite intricate, especially for Masterpiece viewers. Lawtey delivers a sincere performance and seamlessly complements the show’s distinct atmosphere.

5. Benediction (2021)

Bobby Andrews

The film Benediction chronicles the life of Jake Lowden, a British poet and war veteran from World War I who was hospitalized due to his anti-war sentiments. After his discharge, Sassoon’s life remains shadowed by melancholy and disappointment. His relationships with other men are unsatisfying, and he struggles to find meaning in his writing as the impending war continues unabated. Despite its somber tone, the film offers glimmers of success that ultimately culminate in a surprisingly optimistic finale.

Harry Lawtey portrays Bobby Andrews, another gay character who forms a friendship with Sassoon during their stay at the psychiatric institution and expresses similar views about the role. This is Lawtey’s debut film role following his casting in Industry, marking the start of a series of significant on-screen appearances throughout the early 2020s. Once again, Lawtey demonstrates his versatility in seamlessly fitting into any show or movie’s required atmosphere.

4. Joker: Folie À Deux (2024)

Harvey Dent

As a dedicated cinephile, I proudly find myself among the esteemed ranks of actors who have essayed the role of Harvey Dent, with my recent signing for “Joker: Madness Duet,” the upcoming sequel to the 2019 sensation, “Joker.” Despite the mixed reception that “Madness Duet” has received, it’s undeniably kept us all buzzing within the pop culture sphere. In this continuation, we find our protagonist, Arthur Fleck (portrayed brilliantly by Joaquin Phoenix), awaiting trial for the transgressions committed in the earlier narrative. A fresh ensemble of characters graces the screen, including some familiar DC faces.

In “Joker: Folie à Deux,” Harvey Dent transforms into a version of Two-Face from the comics towards the end of the movie, as suggested by his disfigured face. Lawtey’s portrayal effectively conveys Dent’s Boy Scout values as a prosecutor, but he also adds elements of arrogance and self-righteousness to the character, which are crucial for the development of Two-Face.

3. The Pale Blue Eye (2022)

Artemus Marquis

A captivating and suspenseful small-scale mystery from the past unfolds at West Point, New York, during the early 1800s in the movie “The Pale Blue Eye”. The seasoned detective Augustus Landor, portrayed by Christian Bale, is on a mission to unravel a string of murders occurring at the United States Military Academy. In his quest for answers, he enlists the aid of a cadet, none other than young Edgar Allan Poe, played by Harry Melling, who gained fame from the Harry Potter series. The character of Cadet Artemus Marquis, another academy student, is brought to life by Harry Lawtey.

In this story, Artemus is the offspring of Dr. Daniel Marquis (played by Toby Jones), who conducts autopsies on fallen cadets. It’s later revealed that Artemus and his sister Lea (portrayed by Lucy Boynton) engage in dark rituals involving black magic and the extraction of human organs. When it’s discovered they plan to sacrifice Poe, he is saved by Augustus. Unfortunately, the Marquis siblings perish in a subsequent fire. Lawtey delivers a chilling and eerie performance as Artemus, who experiences seizures, and there’s an undercurrent of sadness in his characterization.

2. You & Me (2023)

Ben (3 Episodes, 2023)

In a simple and engaging manner:

“Jamie Davis’ three-part romantic comedy-drama series titled “You & Me” features Harry Lawtey as Ben, one of the central characters. Contrary to its comedic label, this show is profoundly tragic yet captivating. The narrative explores the question of whether it’s possible for people to find happiness after enduring unimaginable hardships. Ben is a carefree young Londoner who crosses paths with a young woman named Jess (Sophia Brown) when they both miss the same bus.

The duo rapidly develop a deep and lasting romance, portrayed concurrently throughout the series, yet shrouded in profound sorrow. Lawtey exhibits an impressive knack for playing the romantic lead, his charm making him endearing. This likability intensifies the emotional impact of the story’s tragic turns.

The role may seem straightforward at first glance, but it demands a skilled performer to navigate the intricacies hidden within the character. Despite being just three episodes, it serves as a testament to Lawtey’s acting prowess.

1. Industry (2020-Present)

Robert Spearing (24 Episodes, 2020-2024)

Without a doubt, one of Harry Lawtey’s most significant roles so far, as Robert Spearing in the series “Industry“, has catapulted his career into the limelight. The show delves into the ruthless world of Pierpoint & Co, a distinguished London investment bank, where both money and sharp words move at breakneck speed. Robert, a graduate from Oxford University, hails from a working-class background in Wales, and he finds himself stationed at the CPS desk during the first season.

Robert, who thinks the bank operates as a true meritocracy, is optimistic that his working-class past won’t count against him. Simultaneously, he strives to separate himself from this background. Remarkably, Harry Lawtey, a shining and respected employee, skillfully transforms an otherwise dislikable professional sphere into one that is endearing. Such a vital figure in Industry, it will be quite unusual when he’s absent for season 4.
