In 2025, after wrapping up his “Venom” trilogy, Tom Hardy experienced an action-packed year that included the premiere of his gangster series, “MobLand”, and the debut of the intense action film “Havoc”. However, despite years in development and multiple reshoots, “Havoc” failed to impress audiences.
The action movie “Havoc,” directed by Gareth Evans, made its debut on Netflix on April 25. Initially, it received a mediocre rating of 61% from critics, barely qualifying as a “fresh” film. As more reviews came in, the rating slightly improved to 66%, but unfortunately, as more audience members weighed in, they seemed increasingly unimpressed. The film, starring Tom Hardy, currently has an audience approval rating of just 49%.
Although critics commended Havoc‘s action scenes, fight sequences, and directorial approach, viewers found it less captivating. One critique pointed out that the movie attempted to encompass too many elements, ultimately falling short of success. Another reviewer remarked, “The action sequences are brimming with extraordinary scenes, but they’re so illogical you can’t ignore how incoherent they are.” Still another described it as a “movie vampire,” draining the oxygen out of other films. Critics also noted the absence of a compelling narrative, despite its star-studded cast, and mentioned that its storyline was unoriginal, having been explored frequently before.
Indeed, the film Havoc has garnered its due share of appreciation. One viewer awarded it five stars, labeling it as “outstanding,” while another felt that people tend to demand too much from movies and stated, “I think folks around the world have far too many issues on their plates to worry about nitpicking a movie with decent action. They simply can’t let themselves enjoy it without finding something to criticize here and there.” Yet another viewer found it satisfying enough to watch from start to finish.
Despite the negative feedback from critics, there’s no question that Havoc is poised for massive success. Although Netflix won’t unveil the official viewer numbers until Tuesday, the movie has already become a global hit, topping charts worldwide, even in the U.S., just one day after its release.
What Is Havoc About?
In my humble opinion, I recently watched a gripping cinematic masterpiece that left me breathless. As a hard-boiled detective, battered and bruised, I found myself plunged into the treacherous underbelly of organized crime. A pivotal moment occurred during an ill-fated drug transaction where our protagonist, Walker, was entrusted with the rescue mission of a politically influential figure’s prodigal son.
Amidst grappling with his own turbulent past and navigating through the city’s tangled web of corruption and intrigue, Walker displayed an unwavering determination to uphold justice. If you appreciate edge-of-your-seat action sequences and thought-provoking narratives, I highly recommend giving this film a watch. It’s a captivating exploration of morality, power, and the relentless pursuit of truth in a world where nothing is ever as it seems.
The illustrious cast of Havoc is graced by stars such as (Hitman), Forest Whitaker (Black Panther), Jessie Mei Li (Shadow and Bone), Justin Cornwell (The Umbrella Academy), Quelin Sepulveda (Good Omens), Luis Guzmán (Wednesday), the former MMA fighter Michelle Waterson, Sunny Pang (The Night Comes for Us), Jim Caesar (The Witcher), Xelia Mendes-Jones (Fallout), and Yeo Yann Yann (The King of Musang King).
Havoc is streaming on Netflix.
