Madelyne Pryor Could Be the Heroes’ Last Hope Against Doom

In the dire scenario labeled “One World Under Doom“, the heroes are confronted with an immense predicament: Doom has seized control of the world, and he seems to have the backing of almost everyone except them. Despite the valiant efforts of teams like the Fantastic Four and the Avengers to overthrow him, they’ve failed to outsmart Doom. This failure has prompted the Avengers to forge an alliance with the notorious Masters of Evil, devising a strategy to not only vanquish Doom but also uncover how he managed to win over world leaders. The current lineup of the Masters features one of the X-Men’s most formidable adversaries – Madelyne Pryor. Madelyne Pryor plays a crucial role in the plan due to her potent telepathic abilities and proficiency in magic.

Throughout their existence, Madelyne Pryor has significantly impacted the X-Men’s chronicles. Initially married to Cyclops, her background is complex and often perplexing, as she was primarily designed for a single objective – bearing a child destined to annihilate Apocalypse. Unfortunately, Madelyne Pryor has been unfairly maligned, largely due to writers attempting to mold her into something other than what she essentially is. A closer examination of her history only serves to highlight the extent to which this character has been mistreated over the years.

Madelyne Pryor Was Driven to Villainy by the Insane Circumstances of Her Life

Following Jean Grey’s apparent demise in “The Dark Phoenix Saga,” Cyclops chose to depart from the X-Men. He relocated to Alaska and took up flying, where he encountered a woman who bore a striking resemblance to Jean – the attractive Madelyne Pryor. They began dating and eventually fell deeply in love, getting married. During this period, Cyclops largely stepped away from his X-Man duties, with Pryor becoming pregnant and giving birth to Nathan Summers, the future Cable. However, the resurrection of Jean Grey led Cyclops to form X-Factor alongside the original four X-Men, leaving behind his wife and child for superhero duties. Over time, Mister Sinister targeted Pryor and Nathan, and it was revealed that she was a clone of Jean Grey created by Sinister to obtain a child fathered by both Grey and Cyclops. This revelation, coupled with her husband’s departure, sent Maddie into madness. She began pursuing Havok, manipulating him mentally, and allied herself with N’astirh of Limbo in the 1989 crossover “Inferno.” Madelyne’s insanity led her to pursue her child for sacrifice, keeping a portal to Limbo open. She was eventually defeated by the X-Men, believed to have perished.

In a unique turn of events, Madelyne Pryor was brought back to life by Nate Grey, an alternate version of Cable, using his psychic powers during his arrival from the Age of Apocalypse universe into Earth-616 via the M’Kraan Crystal. Nate and Madelyne spent time together before she rejoined her old enemies, the X-Men, forming a group known as the Sisterhood of Mutants. Over the years, she was repeatedly defeated and resurrected, with her most recent life originating from events in the Krakoa Era.

Sinister’s Hellions attacked Madelyne when she took control of his cloning technology. Havok, under Psylocke’s influence, ended up killing her. Emma Frost eventually managed to revive Maddie for Havok’s sake. In Limbo, Maddie partnered with Ben Reilly for another invasion, but Jean Grey granted Maddie memories of Nathan growing up, which had always been Madelyne’s desire. After Orchis was defeated, Havok joined forces with Maddie to form an X-Men team that fought against the Limbo Embassy in New York City. However, Havok left her after Orchis was vanquished, and since then, Madelyne has decided to join the Masters of Evil.

Madelyne Pryor Plays an Integral Role in the Avengers’ Plan

Analyzing Madelyne Pryor’s past, it’s evident that her life was largely beyond her control. Bred as a potent brood-mare, she experienced genuine affection, only to have it taken away by Jean Grey’s return, the one she was meant to substitute. This event, coupled with revelations about her existence, drove her to madness. The male figures in her life shattered Maddie, making her story a deeply tragic one. Regrettably, many writers portray her as an antagonistic mother intent on harming her child, overlooking her role as a victim of circumstances. Unpredictably, Maddie’s alliance with the Masters of Evil was not anticipated by most, but it aligns with the tumultuous narrative of Maddie’s life.

The strategy of both The Avengers and Masters of Evil consists of two main parts: Firstly, a joint assault by both teams aims to divert Doctor Doom’s attention. Simultaneously, Scarlet Witch, Madelyne Pryor, and Baron Mordo delve into the minds of global leaders, investigating how Doctor Doom managed to persuade them into making him the Emperor of the world. Madelyne is instrumental in this entire plot, as her potent telepathic abilities and magical prowess serve as a link between Wanda, Mordo, and these world leaders. The plan runs smoothly until the magic users uncover the true depth of Doom’s scheme. It turns out that his mastermind is far beyond expectations, and discovering the truth was only achievable with Madelyne’s assistance.
