In “Magic Farm”, Sevigny takes charge of a hapless movie team attempting, yet barely succeeding, to create TV masterpieces in a quaint Argentine village. Her fellow actors are Alex Wolff (known for “Oppenheimer”), Joe Apollonio (“Hacks”) and Amalia Ulman (“El Planeta”), with the latter being both the writer and director of “Magic Farm”. In an interview with MovieWeb, Sevigny’s colleagues enthusiastically shared their favorite films of hers from her extensive career.
As a film enthusiast, I find myself constantly drawn to two extraordinary works: “Kids,” which stands as a timeless classic, and Lars Von Trier’s “Dogville.” The latter, particularly, resonates more with me as I grow older. Nicole Kidman’s performance in this film is nothing short of masterful; she deftly treads the line between reality and the darker, nightmarish aspects of her character.
Last year, I was captivated by another remarkable piece – “Monsters” on Netflix. Kidman yet again showcased her immense talent in this series, a trait that inspires me greatly as we share a similar journey having started young in the world of cinema. Her longevity and consistency in delivering impactful projects and performances are something I can only aspire to emulate.
As a movie connoisseur, allow me to share my thoughts. Upon viewing “Big Love” following “Julien Donkey-Boy,” I found myself uttering an exclamation of astonishment. Chloë Sevigny, in her unique ability, straddles the line between art-house cinema and mainstream roles with a seemingly effortless grace and coolness that left me utterly impressed.

The director, Ulman, who custom-tailored the main role in “Magic Farm” for Sevigny, additionally discussed the prolific film career of this highly regarded actress.
Several shows influenced this character’s creation, but one that stands out in my memory, as it was watched with my mom and our beloved cat (who has since passed away), was ‘Big Love.’ I recall my mom commenting on Chloë’s fashionable attire, stating, ‘Of course, she wears the best clothes in the show. Her character is the only one wearing stylish clothes.’ This observation speaks volumes about her, as her fashion sense within that TV series was consistently impressive, and I admire her for that.
Alex Wolff, one of the co-stars, went as far as saying they admired Sevigny deeply on set. However, when we interviewed her, Sevigny playfully dismissed this, stating “We all respected Chloë… as a guiding light for the movie’s tone.” She continued, “It’s almost like Chloë has this mystical power. It’s as if everything she touches becomes trendy. And [director] Amalia possesses a similar charm. So truthfully, it was quite gratifying to be recognized and invited into [this group], because it felt like being included in the most popular and unique crowd at school.
