Ever found yourself unsure which weapon is best in Hytale? This guide is here to help! I’ve created a complete weapon tier list, ranking them from strongest to weakest based on actual in-game performance – not just damage stats.
This weapon ranking is based on how helpful each one is, how much damage it can do, how flexible it is in different situations, and how good it feels to use in actual combat. We tested every weapon with its best version – usually the Onyxium upgrade – and put them all through the same tests, which involved a lot of practice on a training dummy. Our apologies to that dummy!
Whether you’re just starting Hytale or want to focus on the best weapons, this guide will help you save time and avoid wasting materials.
How This Tier List Was Tested

As a huge fan, I’ve personally put every single weapon through its paces in real combat – I didn’t just give them a quick swing and decide what looked cool. I really dug into how quickly they could take down enemies, how fast I could attack, their range, and how well they kept me alive. I also paid attention to how much room for error each weapon gave you. You know, some weapons seem incredible on paper, but feel terrible when you’re actually fighting. And others? They totally surprised me and were way better than I expected once I figured out how they worked.
It’s important to remember that a player’s skill level is a major factor. Certain weapons become much more powerful when combined with advanced movement techniques and a deep understanding of the game, ultimately influencing how effective they are.
SSS++ Tier If You’ve Got the Skills

Daggers are surprisingly powerful in the hands of skilled players. While they might not seem great at first glance, those who master movement techniques like bunny hopping, maintaining speed, and quickly switching weapons to conserve energy can turn daggers into a top-tier threat. With skillful play, they can easily jump to the highest ranking and win fights based purely on player skill.
S Tier – Completely Broken (or Close Enough)

As a player, I’ve noticed some weapons are just…broken, honestly. They either instantly eliminate enemies, make fights way too easy, or give you so much protection and control it’s ridiculous. When you get your hands on one of those, the whole game feels like it adjusts to you instead of the other way around.
The Scythe is the best weapon in the game. It deals a massive 118 damage with each hit, making almost everything else – even powerful weapons like the blunderbuss – seem weak in comparison. It’s truly the ultimate weapon to use.
The Alien Rifle/Railgun is unbelievably powerful. It deals around 200 damage, has unlimited ammo, and feels completely out of place in a survival game. It completely breaks the game’s balance as soon as you use it.
Okay, seriously, the Blunderbuss is insane! As a player, I can tell you it just destroys enemies in one hit, most of the time without even trying. It’s super rare, nobody really knows much about it, and it’s completely overpowered. Honestly, if you get your hands on one and fire it, something will die. It’s that simple!
The Crossbow is surprisingly powerful for a weapon that’s relatively uncommon. It can fire multiple shots quickly, deals a lot of damage, pushes enemies back, and is very accurate – making it one of the best weapons in the game. It’s much better than regular bows and can even compete with the most powerful ranged weapons.

The Onyxium Long Sword is powerful because of its straightforward effectiveness. It consistently defeats enemies with a single hit – no special tricks needed. Just one swing, and they’re gone.
The Onyxium Club is a powerful, one-time use weapon, and what really sets it apart is that you can also equip a shield while using it. This added defense makes it one of the very best options, placing it in S tier.
The Flame Long Sword doesn’t instantly defeat enemies in one hit, but it consistently deals damage in just two, and feels very powerful overall. It’s one of the best weapons available, ranking near the very top tier, but just below the absolute strongest.
The Onyxium Staff is a top-tier weapon because it’s incredibly safe to use. It deals good damage, has unlimited ammo, doesn’t require stamina, and lets you control enemies from a very long distance, making it hard to lose if you play strategically.
The Handgun quickly makes swords obsolete. Its speed, powerful damage, and simple operation easily place it at the top tier of weapons.
The Rifle is right up there with the best. It consistently deals a massive amount of damage, and it’s surprisingly easy to use, easily making it a top-tier weapon.
A Tier – Strong, Reliable, and Worth Using

These weapons don’t make the game too easy, but they’re really well-designed and enjoyable to use when you’re actually playing.
The Onyxium Sword is a solid weapon to have. While it doesn’t instantly defeat enemies, it attacks quickly, making it dependable and easy to use. It offers a similar experience to daggers, but is more straightforward and doesn’t require complex maneuvers.
The Bow is also a top-tier weapon. While it takes about four shots to defeat an opponent, its range gives it a significant advantage. By staying at a distance or utilizing high ground, players can use the Bow very safely and effectively.
B Tier – Usable but Outclassed

This weapon work, but there’s usually a better option once you progress.
Okay, so the Onyxium Mace is pretty solid, right up there with the other top-tier weapons. It really packs a punch and those charged attacks can do serious damage. But, man, it’s slow. If you mess up a swing, you’re gonna feel it. It’s definitely a viable option, but honestly, I usually find faster weapons or ones with more burst damage are just better overall.
C Tier – Awkward or Situational

These weapons aren’t useless, but they’re clunky enough that most players will skip them.
The Daggers, a unit that doesn’t require advanced skills or technology, used to appear in this location before players unlocked upgrades. Without abilities that allow for quick movement, they take longer to defeat enemies compared to other powerful units, which can make them feel less effective.
Okay, so I really want to like the Onyxium Sphere, but it’s just… clunky. You have to charge it all the way up before you can even throw it, and once it’s out there, it’s gone for good – you can’t get it back! Plus, it’s not very good up close. It works, sure, but honestly, compared to other ranged weapons, it feels really frustrating and like you can’t always count on it.
D Tier – Don’t Bother (Unless You Like Pain)

These weapons offer almost no combat value.
The Hammerhead Shark is surprisingly considered a weapon, though it’s also quite cute! Sadly, it’s not very effective in battle, dealing only one point of damage per attack. It’s a lovable shark, but definitely one of the weaker options – we’d place it firmly in the D tier.
Final Thoughts
Hytale’s weapons aren’t perfectly balanced, and that actually adds to the game’s appeal. Some weapons are all about skillful play and quick movements, while others are incredibly powerful and let you defeat enemies easily. If you want the strongest weapons, you’ll definitely want to check out the scythe, blunderbuss, crossbow, and alien rifle. But if you prefer a challenge and enjoy mastering a weapon, daggers can be incredibly effective in the hands of a skilled player.
Even the best weapons aren’t very useful if your crafting stations aren’t up to par. Many of the most powerful items require you to upgrade your workbenches, and it can be surprisingly tricky to find the materials you need. If you’re frustrated with constantly searching for resources, I suggest checking out my guide, Hytale: Upgrade All Workbenches to Max Level, Materials Guide. It simplifies the process by detailing each workbench, every upgrade level, and exactly where to find the necessary materials, so you can avoid endless searching.
Once you’ve fully upgraded your crafting station, trying out different weapons is much more enjoyable and effective.
