Filming for Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 has officially started, as actress Rosario Dawson recently posted a behind-the-scenes snapshot from the set on Instagram. The image captures Dawson’s shadow walking towards the set, with her distinctive Ahsoka makeup visible in silhouette. The character’s signature lekku can also be seen outlined. In her caption, Dawson confirmed that Monday, April 28th was the day they started shooting.

It appears that some Star Wars enthusiasts may have thought that Season 2 of Ahsoka was already being filmed. This assumption arose due to a social media post by Ezra Bridger actor Eman Esfandi, who shared his friend’s celebration of Esfandi’s podcast launch and the upcoming Ahsoka Season 2. However, at Star Wars Celebration Japan earlier this month, Ahsoka showrunner Dave Filoni clarified that the second season would start filming soon.
As of now, there’s no announced release date for Ahsoka Season 2. During Celebration Japan, however, Lucasfilm did highlight it among their upcoming projects. At a dedicated panel for Ahsoka, they confirmed Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker in Season 2. Additionally, attendees got a sneak peek of Rory McCann portraying Baylan Skoll, who has taken over the role from the late Ray Stevenson.
With production of Ahsoka Season 2 now underway, fans are eagerly awaiting any news about the cast lineup. Given Star Wars’ reputation for secrecy, it would be exciting if Lucasfilm were to reveal more details soon. Apart from Dawson, Christensen, McCann, and Esfandi, Natasha Liu Bordizzo could potentially reprise her role as Sabine Wren. Additionally, there’s a strong possibility that Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Lars Mikkelsen might return as Herra and Grand Admiral Thrawn respectively. Given that Filoni is working on a New Republic era movie linked to Ahsoka Season 2, it seems likely that some foundations for this film will be laid in the TV series itself.
The filming of Season 1 for the series “Ahsoka” spanned from May-October 2022, with the premiere happening in August 2023. If Season 2 follows a similar pattern, viewers won’t be able to watch new episodes until approximately mid-2026. This time, Lucasfilm is using various filming methods that take “Ahsoka” beyond the studio, potentially causing production to last longer as the team goes to different locations to shoot. However, with Filoni now free from Celebration obligations and focusing entirely on “Ahsoka”, the show should still be on schedule for whenever it’s released.
