If you’ve played numerous online battles in the Pokemon Trading Card Game (Pokemon TCG) Pocket, you may have noticed recurring strategies among players. Some specific card combinations become popular, and it seems like everyone is adopting similar deck patterns. As a result, you often see decks with Serperior/Celebi ex and Darkrai ex/Weavile ex. If you’re tired of seeing these ex cards prevailing, the new Celestial Guardians set in Pokemon TCG Pocket offers a useful card that can significantly alter the way players approach PvP matches.
The game Celestial Guardians primarily features characters from the Pokemon Sun and Moon series, such as Solgaleo, Drampa, Incineroar, and others like Oriocorio. This generation introduced Oriocorio, a versatile Flying-type Pokemon with four distinct forms. Each of these forms is showcased in Celestial Guardians, but it appears that the Pom-Pom Style, which is a Lightning-type card, is garnering much excitement from players. Although Oricorio may seem unassuming at first with an HP of 70 and a 50-damage attack requiring two Energy, its Ability is certain to irk opposing players.
In terms of Pokemon skills, Oricorio’s Safeguard is quite powerful. It shields Oricorio from any damage caused by the opponent’s Pokémon, such as Celebi’s coin flips or Darkrai’s Nightmare Aura. For players who are finding themselves in trouble due to these abilities, Safeguard can provide a much-needed respite. If a player manages to bring Oricorio into play, their opponent will be forced to change their strategy and use a different Pokémon. This doesn’t automatically guarantee victory, but it certainly offers the player an opportunity to shift the momentum of the battle significantly.
It’s yet to be determined if Oricorio will suffer the same fate of excessive use in the Pokemon TCG Pocket game as many other cards have, but it’s intriguing to see how a single card can significantly alter the gameplay. Since the game launched, we’ve witnessed numerous deck strategies that heavily depend on getting a specific EX card onto the field. With this new development, players will need to rethink their deck-building strategies, focusing on non-EX cards capable of dealing damage instead.
As a dedicated fan of Pokemon TCG Pocket, I must admit that engaging in PvP matches can sometimes feel overwhelmingly challenging. It’s disheartening to face opponents who have the financial means to amass an abundance of powerful EX cards from each set. However, with the arrival of Oriocorio, there’s a glimmer of hope that the balance will be restored, and we might see the developers introduce more strategies to ensure fairness and maintain interest in the game. Frankly, Celestial Guardians has already made quite an impact since its release, and I can hardly wait to see how it transforms the gameplay experience.
