Oblivion Remastered: Get the Forged Letter

In this new version of “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion,” the storyline aims to transfer Hieronymus Lex from his relentless chase after the Gray Fox. Since his pursuit has interfered with the Thieves Guild’s schemes for far too long, he will be reassigned to Anvil, thereby preventing him from continuing his pursuit using the resources of the Imperial City.

In this game, the Thieves Guild isn’t like the Dark Brotherhood which is known for being ruthless. Instead, players will need to use their wit when it comes to handling Hieronymus Lex. Fortunately, there’s a forged letter that can expel Hieronymus Lex from Imperial City, and here’s the secure way to obtain that letter in Oblivion Remastered.

How to Get Taking Care of Lex Quest in Oblivion Remastered

To get the quest called “Taking Care of Lex,” players must first have exchanged a total of 500 Gold with any member of the Thieves Guild, and they must have successfully completed the previous quest named “Lost Histories.” After these prerequisites are met, players can travel to S’Krivva in Bravil to accept her final assignment. This task involves eliminating Hieronymus Lex permanently.

How to Get the Recommendation Letter in Oblivion Remastered

As a keen player, I’m excited to embark on my journey with Taking Care of Lex, starting at the bustling city of Anvil. My objective in this adventure is to secure a Recommendation Letter that I can find hidden within Castle Anvil. The most straightforward way to obtain it is by having a chat with Orrin, the blacksmith situated in the Smithy area of the castle.

By conversing with Orrin about Dairihill, he will kindly guide me to the first room on the right within the Smithy area. In this room, there’s a movable pillar that can be interacted with, revealing a covert path leading to the Private Quarters where I can finally find the elusive Recommendation Letter in Dairihill’s desk.

1 AM would be an ideal time for players to explore the off-limits Private Chambers, since it ensures that Dairihill is absent from his chamber, leaving only one guard to deal with who patrols the area. Once inside the Private Chambers, proceed to the first room on the left and carefully open the lock on Dairihill’s desk to retrieve the letter within.

To avoid any glitches where the master forger fails to forge the letter during the next step, first save your progress separately. If the issue arises in your game, just revert back to this saved state, pick up the letter, and attempt again. This may require a few attempts with different saves to succeed.

How to Find the Master Forger in Oblivion Remastered

After nabbing the letter from Dairihill’s desk, it’s crucial to exit through the same entrance for a stealthy getaway that keeps you out of trouble. Next up on your list is finding a skilled forger to help authenticate the letter. You can track down a renowned forger named A Stranger, who resides in an Abandoned House situated near Anvil’s Mages Guild Hall. Once inside this dilapidated dwelling, approach A Stranger and request his services. However, be aware that he demands 500 Gold for the job and will require a full day (24 hours) to complete the forgery. Make sure you have enough gold on hand and spend those waiting hours within the Abandoned House, where you’ll eventually receive the new letter from him after the 24-hour timeframe has passed.

If the Stranger doesn’t return the fake letter, it indicates a malfunction or error in the game. In such a situation, players might decide to attempt some troubleshooting steps for resolving issues related to “Taking Care of Lex”.

  • Use console commands on PC and enter: player.SetStage 00036334 40
  • Reload a save before you gave him the letter and try again.
  • Give the Stranger the letter late at night (11 PM onwards) and wait 24 hours, then immediately speak to him.
  • Give the Stranger the letter and wait 23 hours, and speak to him after the in-game clock reaches the 24th hour naturally.
  • Complete the Dark Brotherhood questline and return to the Stranger.

How to Get the Imperial Seal in Oblivion Remastered

With the mysterious letter from the Stranger now in their possession, it’s time for players to authenticate it using the Imperial Seal. To do this, they should journey to the Imperial Legion Offices, which are situated within the Prison District of the Imperial City. Ideally, they should wait until after midnight when there are no guards in the dining area before entering the building. Once inside, they can proceed through the right-hand doors and interact with the Imperial Seal to activate it. Upon completion, exit the building promptly to evade detection by the guards who will view intruders as hostile.

How to Reassign Hieronymus Lex in Oblivion Remastered

As a devoted admirer, I’ve now secured a letter bearing the Imperial Seal, discovered within the hallowed halls of Anvil Castle, addressed to the esteemed Countess Millona Umbranox. The moment is ripe for me to hand over this missive to her, as it concerns the matter of Hieronymus Lex. Engaging in a private audience with the countess about Mr. Lex will undoubtedly instill courage within her, empowering her to transfer him to Anvil.

All that remains is for me to personally break the news to her. Once this is done, I shall journey to the bustling Waterfront District of the Imperial City and have a conversation with Hieronymus Lex himself. Though he may express reluctance, he’ll ultimately comply with his new assignment in Anvil, marking the end of his time within the Imperial City forever.

Upon revisiting S’Kivva, players will have finished her final Thieves Guild mission, earning them 500 Gold, a Shadowfoot promotion, and a new Thieves Guild contact, Orrin, at the Anvil Smithy. This completed quest also sets the stage for the initial Gray Fox mission.
