Russell Brand granted bail after rape and sexual assault charges – to appear in Crown Court later this month

Russell Brand has been granted bail following a hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court.

The entertainer, who is also an actor and a TV host, faces several charges related to sexual misconduct. Specifically, he has been accused of one count each of rape, indecent assault, and oral rape, as well as two separate counts of sexual assault.

Four women have made allegations that occurred during the timeframe of 1999 to 2005 in both Bournemouth and London. These accusations pertain to incidents that have been claimed to have happened.

For the very first time, the accusations came to light during an investigation conducted by Channel 4’s Dispatches in 2023, which was collaboratively undertaken with The Times and The Sunday Times, titled Russell Brand: In Plain Sight.

The brand has firmly refuted the allegations, recently stating to their followers on X: “Although I struggled with drug addiction, sexual compulsions, and lack of intellect, I was never a rapist. I have never been involved in any form of non-consenting activities.

Today in court (as reported by Sky News), he made few remarks, merely verifying his name, birthdate, current residence, and his comprehension of the bail terms. The case has been forwarded to the Old Bailey, a Crown Court, where Brand is set to appear on Friday, 30th May.

During the court proceedings, it was detailed that the suspect faced accusations linked to a rape incident that allegedly occurred in a hotel room in Bournemouth back in 1999, as well as an indecent assault case at a TV production studio in 2001.

The accusations encompass an alleged instance of oral rape and sexual assault that supposedly occurred in London during the year 2004, as well as another claim of sexual assault that spanned from 2004 to 2005 within a radio station.

The brand resided in the U.S. when the Crown Prosecution Service gave approval for the charges to be filed. These charges were sent by mail. The court had been given not only the brand’s U.S. address but also their address in the U.K. as well.

At age 49, he gained global recognition through his performances in comedic movies and successful stand-up shows. More recently, however, he’s become widely recognized for his political stances and active social media presence.
