Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Doctor Who episode Lucky Day.
At last, Millie Gibson’s character, Ruby Sunday, is back on Doctor Who. But couldn’t we give her a chance to relax for a while?
In the most recent installment titled “Lucky Day,” we find Ruby attempting to resume her everyday routine following her exciting escapades alongside The Doctor, portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa.
It appears that things are looking positive for her. She has expanded her family network after reuniting with her mother, she’s progressing beyond the Doctor, and she’s dating Conrad, portrayed by Jonah Hauer-King.
But, in true Doctor Who fashion, not everything is as it seems. Here’s everything you need to know!
Doctor Who – Lucky Day ending explained: Why did Mrs Flood free Conrad?
It remains unclear as to what motivated Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson) to work towards Conrad’s release from prison at the end of the episode, however, there are several potential reasons.
Being a die-hard fanatic of all things Doctor-related, I find myself brimming with an abundance of knowledge on the Time Lord himself. This wealth of insights might just be what Mrs. Flood needs to navigate her current predicament.

In my perspective as a film critic, I must admit that this actress is relentless in her pursuit of uncovering secrets about the enigmatic Doctor. Accompanying him and Belinda (played by Varada Sethu) on their temporal and spatial journeys, she can’t help but eavesdrop and gather intel along the way.
It’s possible that Mrs. Flood might be planning to assemble a group of the Doctor’s adversaries, considering Conrad’s deep-seated animosity towards the Doctor and his significant sway in social media circles. Could it be that they could mobilize public opinion against the Doctor somehow?
It’s also possible that Mrs. Flood is intentionally stirring up trouble for UNIT by letting Conrad return to the streets. Previously in the episode, he had surprised them by attacking and recording them as he and his group labeled them as liars.
Initially, he may fear the organization known as UNIT, but following Kate Stewart’s bold action, there’s a chance he could find the courage to challenge them in the days to come.
Why did Conrad Clark betray Ruby Sunday?
Conrad clearly never loved Ruby – and was only dating her to get close to her to draw out UNIT.
As head of the organization known as Think Tank, Conrad contends that the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (UNIT) has been deceiving the general public regarding the potential extraterrestrial danger to our planet. He alleges that all the so-called aliens and monsters they’ve reportedly encountered are actually fabrications.

He intends to unmask their deceptions by organizing a spectacle where his companions donned extraterrestrial costumes, causing the UNIT to respond. Subsequently, he planned to surprise the UNIT members, trying to capture their responses on camera.
Following his arrest, public sentiment and media favor shifted towards him, leading to his release. This action, however, stirred up further turmoil for UNIT as it resulted in the exposure of their staff’s personal information, including Ruby and her family members.
Did Kate Stewart go too far?
To give Conrad a clear understanding of the danger UNIT is safeguarding us all from, I released a Shreek within the UNIT tower’s premises.
Due to Conrad’s rejection of the proposal made earlier in the episode, the Shreek continues its pursuit of him at present.

While he pleads for assistance, Kate teases him by reminding him that he had claimed it wasn’t genuine, prompting Ruby and Shirley (Ruth Madeley) to implore her to cease.
I can certainly appreciate Kate’s anger – it’s only natural given that Conrad publicly disparaged and mocked the work of UNIT, an organization close to her heart, especially considering her late father, the Brigadier, was part of it.
Eventually, Ruby successfully stuns Shreek with a taser, but unfortunately, Shreek manages to bite down on Conrad’s arm before being subdued. Despite this setback, Conrad survived long enough to receive a stern reprimand from the Doctor at the end of the episode.
The Doctor’s adventures resume on BBC One this coming Saturday, 10th May. In the UK, you can catch the latest episodes starting at 8am every Saturday on BBC iPlayer. If you’re not in the UK, the series is accessible on Disney+.
