John Nania, who stands in for Sebastian Stan during stunts in films, shared that Mark Hamill expressed interest in Sebastian taking over the role of Luke Skywalker, should there be a re-casting in the Star Wars series. Historically, Lucasfilm has been hesitant about replacing characters, citing the Han Solo recast as an example from Solo: A Star Wars Story, which struggled at the box office. However, discussions around recasting original trilogy actors have resurfaced, following Andor’s decision to replace the character of Bail Organa because the original actor, Jimmy Smits, was unavailable.
Currently, John Nania, stunt double for Sebastian Stan, has shared with Cantina Talk that Mark Hamill, the original Luke Skywalker actor, expresses enthusiasm for a widely favored recast – Stan would make an excellent young Luke Skywalker. Hamill has reportedly discussed this concept with Stan, and it appears he is fond of the idea; however, Stan himself seems hesitant to take on the role while the esteemed actor still plays it.
